What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with

My inquiry question is:

What are the steps, tool, insight and technique needed in order to make a professional mural in your home

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I very much enjoy drawing. It’s one of my biggest passions and I wanted to make it into my capstone.
Painting is a medium I’ve almost never done. I want to learn how to paint and I believe a mural is a good
way of learning how to paint.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

I draw very often and have some experience with the characters I’m drawing. I’ve been drawing since Gr. 8,
all self taught from watching youtube videos, studying professionals and recreating pictures from masters
and photos.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

By fusing artistic expression and technology, I create murals that combine classic artistic components with
cutting-edge digital ones. These murals develop into engaging portfolio pieces that demonstrate my
capacity to combine art and technology to produce interactive art forms.

A DIY mural video project integrates core competencies from art and design, fine arts, DIY and home
improvement, video production, communication, technology, project management, and marketing. This
multidisciplinary approach involves skills in creativity, drawing and painting, project planning, videography, video
editing, communication, technology usage, time management, and audience engagement to create and share
an engaging and informative video about mural creation.

Youtube tutorial
Provide a timelapse with a voiceover. Have recordings of milestones and important information to keep in
mind. Update things I notice along the way. This would be a vlog/tutorial type video where I record my
adventure and try to be informative as well. It would be very casual and hopefully very entertaining and
engaging.

Capstone Project Proposal: "Creating DIY Home Murals Through YouTube Tutorials"

In our generation and especially our age range, expressing oneself is something many try and figure out.
It’s something teens especially try to figure out as they come closer to reaching adulthood. Art is simply
one of the many ways people can visually show who they are. What better place to put that art than the
space you work sleep and live in? My capstone proposal is "Creating DIY Home Murals Through YouTube
Tutorials" to show youth how to show who they are in their rooms.

Research and Exploration:

Mural Art Styles: The project will begin with research into various mural art styles, including traditional,

contemporary, and thematic approaches, to offer a well-rounded perspective to the audience.
Creation Process:

Drafting and Sketching: Detailed tutorials will guide viewers through the preliminary stages, such as
drafting and sketching their mural ideas on paper, helping them visualize the final piece.

Colour Selection: Viewers will learn how to select and combine colours effectively to evoke desired
emotions and aesthetics in their murals.

Utilizing a Projector: The use of projectors will be explored, showing how they can assist in transferring
sketches to walls accurately.

Execution:

Tracing and Line Work: Step-by-step instructions will be provided on tracing the sketches onto walls and
creating clean, crisp lines that define the mural's structure.

Painting Techniques: Viewers will be taught various painting techniques, such as blending, layering, and
texture application, to add depth and dimension to their murals.

End Product:
After this Capstone project, we will have comprehensive YouTube tutorial videos covering each stage of
the DIY home mural creation process. Viewers will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to
embark on their mural projects independently.

Evaluation:
The success of this project will be evaluated through several metrics:

Viewer Engagement: Tracking the number of views, likes, shares, and comments on each tutorial video to
gauge audience interest and engagement.
Learning Outcomes: Conduct surveys or quizzes to assess the knowledge and skills acquired by viewers
after following the tutorials.

To successfully complete the "Creating DIY Home Murals Through YouTube Tutorials" project. Here's an
overview of what's required and our approach to securing these elements:

Technical Resources: This category includes the necessary equipment and software for video production
and editing.

Art Supplies: Given that the project revolves around mural creation, a variety of art supplies is a must.
These include paints, brushes, canvases, pencils, projectors, and tracing paper. These materials will not
only be used for the tutorials but also for producing the actual murals that will be featured.

Physical Space: A dedicated and well-lit space for mural creation and video recording is imperative.

Graphic Design Software: Graphic design software, such as procreate.

Skills and Expertise: Proficiency in video recording, editing, and production. Similarly, a deep
understanding of art techniques is needed. (these are skills that I will have to learn and/or hone on the
way)

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to

I think most of my mentorship will come through online means such as advanced mural design videos, but
I’ll obviously have more questions that resources won't have. For these, I chose to impose the art
teachers in our school and Rahul’s sister who has experience making murals for communities.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

Resource Constraints:
Limited funding may restrict the acquisition of high-quality camera equipment and art supplies, potentially
affecting the overall production quality of the tutorials.

Technical Challenges:
Technical issues, such as camera malfunctions, software glitches, or unreliable internet connections, can

 disrupt the recording and uploading of video content.

Time Constraints:
Balancing academic coursework, personal commitments, and the demands of the Capstone project may
lead to delays in content creation and publication.

Artistic Expertise:
The project's effectiveness hinges on the team's artistic expertise. Limited experience or skill gaps in
mural art could affect the quality and credibility of the tutorials.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about your project
that you feel should be included in your project proposal.
