The Nutcracker Script
Narrator: Good Evening all, I present to you a story about a young girl and
a nutcracker. One snow filled Christmas Eve, Marie and her brother Fritz
came downstairs to greet the guests invited to their parent’s Christmas
party.
Marie: I’m so glad you’re here! It never seems like Christmas until you
arrive.
Narrator: Godfather always brought the most magical gifts for the kids.
One year he brought an acrobatic jack-in-the-box and last year was a
life-size ballerina doll!
1
Fritz: (unwrapping the gift) Oh cool! Toy soldiers. Marie let’s see what's in
your box (reaching for present)
Godfather: Now, now, not so fast. Marie, you may open it.
Marie: (unwrapping the gift holding up the nutcracker) Oh, what a dear little
funny man! What is it?
Godfather: It’s a nutcracker! You see, you put a nut in his mouth and make
him bite down and PRESTO! The nut is cracked. I bet his dentist would like
him to retire… must be hard on the teeth.
Fritz: Let me see him. (plays with the nutcracker and jams his mouth) Oh,
who cares it was just cheap junk.
Marie: Oh Fritz, look what you’ve done. You’ve broken it and what an awful
thing to say.
Godfather: Let me see if I can fix it for you. (fiddles with it upstage) There!
Good as new!
Marie: Oh thank you Godfather. I’ll take good care of him. I promise.
Godfather: Well I must be going now. Merry Christmas to both of you.. And
to the nutcracker. (exits as everyone waves)
Marie: You weren’t very nice tonight Fritz, and on Christmas Eve…
Fritz: Whatever! I wish you would just leave me alone. I'm going to bed!
(exits)
2
Narrator: I had no idea it was midnight already. I’ve heard that some very
strange things can happen at 12.
Nutcracker: We must prepare for the battle against the Mouse King and
kitchen mice!
Marie: (waking up realizing the tree is 5 times bigger and the toys have
come to life) Ahhhh, the Nutcracker toy has come alive. Oh my, and the toy
soldiers.
3
Mouse 1: Shhh, they’re right over there!
Soldier 2: Use the lumps of cheese and fire them at the mice.

do?
Mouse King: Tell your silly toy army to stand back and hand over the girl
Nutcracker: Not on my watch!! You and your mouse army don’t stand a
chance
5
Mouse 2: Keep fighting.
Mouse King: Nutcracker, you are getting weaker! Mice, let's finish this
battle and take the girl!
Marie: I must help the nutcracker toy (takes off her shoe and fires it at
Mouse King)
Mouse King: Ahhh, Something has hit me. (collapses and is out cold)
Mouse 3: RUN!!
Soldier 1: Hooray!!!
(soldiers exit)
Nutcracker: You saved me, Marie. I must thank you. Please come follow
me, I have a surprise. (exits with Marie, scene change)

Scene 4: Kingdom of Sweets
Nutcracker: Here we are Candy Meadow and straight through there is the
Kingdom of Sweets.
Marie: Oh my, it’s so beautiful. I can hardly believe my eyes. And what’s
that wonderful smell?
Marie: Wow, where are we? Look, the trees are made of lollipops and the
flowers are made of marshmallows!
Sugarplum Fairy: Welcome. I’m the Sugar Plum Fairy. I’m so glad you
could make it. Please come inside.
Sugarplum Fairy: Make yourself at home and eat anything you want.
Narrator: As Marie and the Nutcracker enjoyed all the food and treats in
the castle, the Sugar Plum Fairy had entertainment planned for the two
guests.
