Activity 3: A. a journey to digestive system!
Procedures:
1. Take a small piece of bread. Tear it into small pieces and place
it into a clean plastic bag. What does this represent?

 This represent a food that passes through the mouth


(ingestion) where the food is being chewed by the tooth.
After the food passes through the mouth, it will pass
through the pharynx and then the esophagus to the
stomach (Peristalsis digestion).
2. Pour a small amount of water.
3. Close the bag and squish the bread with your fingers until all
the pieces are small. What does this represent?

 This represent the food that we ate being digested in the


stomach.

4. Drain the liquid contents down the sink by creating a small gap
that prevents the solid from escaping and compare it with an
undrained sample. What stage of digestion does it represent?
Undrained: Drained:

 The stage of digestion that it represent is Assimilation. For


Assimilation is the process of absorption of vitamins, minerals,
and other chemicals from food as part of the nutrition of an
organism.

5. Put all the contents of the bag into a garbage. What does this
represent?

 It represent human waste and the process can also be


called Elimination because elimination is the process of
food that changes into semi-solid waste of feces which
leave the body through the anus.
