Barb Wire Installation

The risk assessment document summarizes the risks associated with installing barbed wire and security razor on a boundary wall. It identifies hazards such as manual handling injuries, being struck by recoiling wire, puncture wounds from sharp objects, slips and trips, and injuries from misusing hand tools. Control measures are outlined to reduce the likelihood and severity of each hazard, including using protective equipment, following safety procedures, and providing training. The residual risks were determined to be acceptable with the control measures in place.

NB: See notes at the end of this documents

In order to determine the risk, multiply the likelihood rating by the severity rating. The higher the score, the higher the risk and the higher the hazard's priority for workplace
precautions or other actions
These ratings have to be subjective. They depend on your judgment given your knowledge at the time. Further, they are not absolute. The law says that risks should be
reduced “as long as reasonable practicable” - ALARP
Since risk = likelihood x severity, there are only three basic ways of reducing risk.
1. Reduce the likelihood
2. Reduce the severity
3. Reduce both the likelihood & the severity

 Plan work for efficiency, effectiveness and safety.
 Ensure access to required PPE.
 Complete a dynamic (on site) risk assessment.
 Ensure someone knows where you are.
 Minimise all risks of manual handling.
 Minimise exposure to hand arm vibration and repetitive strain.
 Ensure security and proper storage of all tools, equipment, materials and machines.
 Tools must be fit for purpose – clean and sharp.
 Control excessive effect of sun.
 Report all concerns, near misses and accidents.

 Seek safe working at all times.
