Electromagnetic Waves are disturbance in a field that carries energy and does not require
a medium to travel. It differ in terms of wavelength, frequency and energy. Wavelength is the
distance measured from one crest of a wave to the next crest or from one through to the second
through, while, frequency is the number of cycles a wave completes in one second and is
expressed in Hertz, and lastly, energy is carried by/ possessed by the photons. Photons are the
bundles of wave energy.

Ultraviolet Radiation lies just beyond the violet end
of the visible spectrum. UV waves have shorter
wavelengths than the visible light and carry more
energy. Used in Sterilization, Fluorescence, it also
produces vitamin D in the skin and gives tanning
effect, but could be harmful to some extent.
Learning Competency
Cite examples of practical applications of the different regions of EM waves, such as the use
of radio waves in telecommunications. S10FE-IIc-d-48
Directions: Let’s try to test your memory with your past lesson. So stop! Look! And write your
answer on the space provide for.

1. Look at the electromagnetic spectrum more closely this time. What do you notice? Are the
divisions of the regions distinct? Write your answer on the space provided.

A microwave cooks food much
faster than a conventional oven
because it heats both the inside
and outside of the food the
same time.

1.
SIMILARITIES DIFFERENCES
- Both radio waves and - Radio Wave do not cause damage if
microwaves are uses absorbed by the human body, while
ANTENNA and are used fot Gamma Ray are very dangerous and
Television Communication can kill living cells and UV rays to some
- X-ray and Gamma ray were extent cam be harmful to human body.
used in medical ways - Visible spectrum is the only light we can
see, unlike the others.
2. I can protect myself by using suntan or sunscreen lotions that serve to filters and to protect my
body from ultraviolet radiation. Also I can use umbrella when going out.
3. Gamma rays are very strong that they can kill living cells.
