Date and Time
6:15-12:15 TOPIC: Continental Drift
Theory
DAY: MONDAY UNIT 2: The Earth’s Interiors
Given the necessary materials, 80% of the students should be able to:
1. state the Continental Drift Theory;
I. Objectives:
2. Cite evidences of Wegener’s Continental Drift Theory;
3. give the importance of soil.
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of the evidences of the
Continental Drift Theory
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to demonstrate ways to ensure disaster
preparedness during earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions
C. Learning Enumerate the lines of evidence that support plate movement
Competencies/Objectives (S10ES – Ia-j-36.6)
The Continental Drift Theory states that at one point in time, allof the
continents were joined together as one large mass of land, then the
land spread apart and drifted into their current positions.
The Evidences of the Continental Drift Theory are the following:
II. Contents
1. Continental Fit
2. Evidence from Fossil
3. Evidence from Rocks
4. Past Climate Data
III. Learning resources
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Pages pp 37-40
2. Learner’s Materials pp.55-61
Pages
3. Textbook Pages
4. Additional Materials SLM Module 5: Plate Tectonics

(LR) portal
B. Other Learning Resources
IV. Procedure
A. ENGAGE (5 minutes) A. MOVE THE GROVE: given some pictures of geological
events/process, identify the type of plate boundaries by showing
the plate movements using their hands.
B. EXPLORE THE WORLD: Identify the CONTINENTS given a set of
description
B. EXPLORE ( 10 minutes) A. Presentation and Clarification of Materials and Procedure
B. ACTIVITY:

Station 1: EXPLORE IT (Apparent fit of the Continents)

Procedure
1. On a separate sheet of paper, draw a large circle about 8
inches in diameter, to represent the globe.
2. Cut out the islands and continents using the legend identify
what each symbol stands for. Use these evidences
(symbols) on the continents and islands to reconstruct
Pangaea, the supercontinent.
3. Reminder: Not all boundaries may touch and that there
might be areas of water separating some to them.
4. Tape or glue the landmasses into the world map.
5. Answer the guide questions.

Station 2: Read It: (Evidence from Rocks)

1. Read the Science Reading Selection: The Continental
Drift.
2. Answer the guide questions.
Station 3: Arrange it: (Evidence from Fossils)
Procedure:
1. Label the land masses on each sheet. Color the fossil areas
to match the legend below.
2. Cut out each of the continents along the edge of the
continental shelf (the outermost dark line).
Alfred Wegener's fossil evidence for continental drift is shown
on the cut-outs.
3. Try to logically piece the continents together so that they
form a giant supercontinent. Use
Wegener’s fossil evidence to place them in the correct
positions.
4. When you are satisfied with the 'fit' of the continents, glue the
land masses down on a piece of paper
and answer the analysis questions that follow.
Station 4: Watch It! (Paleoclimate Data)
Procedure:
1. Watch a YOUTUBE Video about the evidences of
continental drift using this link-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlqGJSBdjI0.
2. Answer the guide questions.
C. EXPLAIN (10 mins)
GROUP PRESENTATION:
Students will present their final outputs along with their findings to the
class and comprehensively explain their answer to the guide question.
