: Rise to power
In 1913, Hitler moved to Munich, Germany , and when World War
I broke out in 1914 , Hitler volunteered to join the German army .
He served as a soldier and was wounded twice once where he was
hit in the leg during the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and also
temporarily blinded by a British gas attack near Ypres in 1918.
About a month later , while he was recovering in a hospital in
Pasewalk , located in northeast of Berlin , he received the news of
the armistice and Germany's loss in World War I . Similar to many
Germans , Hitler started to believe that the reason of Germany's
crushing defeat was not caused by Allies , but rather by disloyal
''traitors'' within the country. This belief became a powerful myth
that weakened the Weimar Republic and paved the way for Hitler's
.ascent to power
: Nazi Germany
Once Hitler arrived back in Munich towards the end of 1918 , he
became a member of the German Worker's Party , a small political
group that sought to combine the working class's interest with a
powerful sense of German nationalism . With his impressive public
speaking skills and magnetic charisma , he quickly rose through
the ranks of the party. By 1920, he had left the army and assumed
control of its propaganda activities. As the head of the Nazi
Germany, Hitler enforced various strategies that had a profound
impact on the country. He actively pursued an assertive approach,
aiming to enlarge Germany's land and establish a superior Aryan
population . This resulted in the incorporation of Austria , the
seizure of Czechoslovakia, and ultimately , the initiation of World
.War II in 1939
: Holocaust WWII
One of the most horrific legacies of Hitler's regime was the
Holocaust. The systematic genocide of approximately six million
Jews, along with millions of other minorities , such as Romani
people , disabled individuals , and political dissidents , was
orchestrated by the Nazis. This mass murder , carried out in
concentration and extermination camps , is considered one of the
.darkest chapters in human history
: Nazi Propaganda
Hitler knew how influential propaganda could be and made full use
of it to manipulate what people believed . The Nazi propaganda
system spread prejudiced and anti-Semitic ideas, idolized Hitler ,
and unfairly portrayed minority groups. By controlling the flows of
information and shaping public views , the Nazis were able to stay
. in power and advance their harmful ideologies
