In the previous topic, you have created portable bootable devices and prepared customized
installers. Your next challenge is for you to install an operating system to a computer device.
Operating System (OS) is a program or set of instructions that act as an interface between
the user and the computer hardware. It enables your hardware peripherals to communicate
with the software and its responsible for running computer programs. It also manages all the
activities in a computer system such as:
File Management;
Memory Management;
Processor Management;
Device Management; and
Network Management for Network Operating Systems (NOS)
Before you start the installation process, you need to check if your hardware components
met the hardware requirement of a specific operating system.
For Windows 7, the following are the hardware requirements:
1. Insert the bootable USB flash drive in the USB port or the CD/ DVD disc inside the CD/ DVD
drive.
2.Turn on your computer then press Del or F2 (keys
to press depend on your computer’s mainboard) to
enter the BIOS then select Boot tab and select boot
device priority. You may choose [Removable Dev.]
to be set as 1st boot device priority if you are using
a bootable USB flash drive to boot your operating
system. However, when you use a CD or DVD disc,
set [CDROM: P2-ATAPI iHA] as the first boot device
priority then press F10 to save the configuration.
Press Enter key to select the Okay button. Your
computer will then reboot, Windows 7 will then load
the files. Wait until it is done.
11. Format all of the partitions you have created by clicking the Format icon. When done,
select the partition where you allocated the 60% of the drive’s space. This is where you
install the Windows 7 operating system. Click Next. Windows will start to copy the files to
your hard drive. It would take about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the speed of your
computer. When the installation is done, your computer will restart. Wait until the Set-up
Windows screen will appear.
15. Select your computer's current location. If you are a home user then choose Home network
otherwise select the appropriate option then Windows will now finalize the settings for your
computer and will restart. After the restart, it will ask you to type your username and
password. If the log on is successful, Windows 7 will load your desktop similar to the picture
shown at the right.
