2. CASE BASED QUESTIONS

The DNA molecule is a polymer composed of nucleotides. Each of those

nucleotides is a letter in the “genetic alphabet”. Each nucleotide is formed of a
phosphate group, a sugar and a nitrogenous base. Two nucleotides are connected
by a phosphodiester bond, in which a phosphate group links the 3’-hydroxyl group
of one nucleotide to the 5’-phosphate group of the next, giving rise to directionality
in the polynucleotide chain. By convention, we refer to DNA sequences from 5’ to
the 3’ end, which corresponds to the direction in which they synthesized and read
by other molecules. The base defines the type of nucleotide. There are two types of
bases in DNA: purines and pyrimidines. The two main purines that occur in DNA
are adenine(A) and guanine(G). As for pyrimidines, cytosine(C) and thymine(T)
are typically found.

Based on the above facts discussed answer the following questions-

i. The type of coiling in DNA is
a) Zig-Zag

reproduction d. None of the above

2. CASE BASED QUESTIONS

When Martha’s cells get ready to divide , the genetic information has to be copied.
If you are going to make another cell just like yourself , you’ve got to make sure
that the next generation knows what to do; you’ve got to send the right
information. so the cell has to make a copy of the instructions of the DNA- you
know , the genetic material. So here’s the deal. The scientists that study this stage
in our life called it ‘interphase’, and that’s what shown in exhibit A. this is the time
when we’re really living it up, growing like crazy , making proteins like there’s no
tomorrow , and making little organelles. But then things change in a big way. The
cell has gotten too big, you might say. It got divide. And that’s when the DNA
makes a copy of itself.

Based on the above facts discussed answer the following questions-

i. Nuclear DNA replicates in _____ phase
a) G2 phase
b) M phase
c) S phase
d) None of above
ii. ____ is the number of DNA in the chromosome at G2 stage of cell
cycle
a) 1 b) 2 c) 3 d) 0
iii. The stage which serves as a connecting link between meiosis1 and
meiosis2
a) Interphase 1
b) Interphase 2
c) Interkinesis
d) None of the above
iv. The ______ state implies the exit of cells from the cell cycle

v. Assertion(A):interphase occupies 75-95%of the total generation time.
Reason (R) : inter phase is the long non dividing phase
