Lesson-Plan.8G # 7)

This lesson plan template guides teachers through backwards design to plan an effective physics lesson on electric charge and static electricity. [1] The student-centered learning objective is for students to explain basic concepts of electric charge, static electricity, and how charged objects interact. [2] Formative assessments such as questioning, brainstorming activities, and worksheets will check student understanding. [3] Learning strategies include a demonstration where students charge balloons and observe static electricity, a video to introduce concepts, and group work and discussion of worksheet questions.

Backwards Design Lesson Planning Template

Directions: Use this planning worksheet to follow the three steps of the backwards design process in
order to plan an effective lesson.

Subject Physics Lesson Date : January 14

Content Standard
Electric Charge and Static Electricity

Step One: Write a Student-Centered Learning Objective – Must be specific, measurable, and clearly
stated.

Behavior – WHAT the learner

Students will be able to explain the basic concepts of electric
will be able to do.
Includes a verb! charge, static electricity, and how charged objects interact.

Investigate real-life applications of Static electricity e.g

1. Balloons
Condition – HOW the learner2. Small pieces of paper
will perform the behavior. 3. Wool or fur fabric

be able to use.
6. Plastic or glass rods/strips
7. Whiteboard and markers

Criterion – How WELL the

learner must perform to
demonstrate content mastery.
3 out of 5 questions
Refers to a degree of accuracy,
number of correct responses, or
time imit.

Learning Objective – Put all 1. Begin by asking students what they know about

electricity. Write their responses on the whiteboard.
2. Introduce the concept of electric charge and
explain the basic properties of charges (positive
and negative).
3. Discuss how charges can interact, either by

attracting or repelling each other.

Step Two: Create a Plan for Assessment – Used to gather information about a student’s progress
towards mastery of the learning objective, help the teacher identify what instruction is working well and
what needs refinement, and informs the students about their learning.

Type of Assessment Options to Consider Specific Plan

Step Three: Choose Learning Strategies and Activities – How you present new content to your
students, and how your students will actually interact with the content. Add additional rows as needed.
