lV. PROCEDURE Teachers Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer Please stand for our prayer. (Students praying)
President of the class, kindly lead the
prayer.
 Greetings Good afternoon students Good afternoon, Sir!

Kindly arrange your chairs and pick up (Students picking-up pieces of paper)
pieces of paper on the floor.

And you may now sit Thank you, Sir!

 Checking of Who is absent today? None Sir!
Attendance
Very good!
B. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting the New Lesson
Are you ready for our discussion for today? Yes Sir!

That’s good!

Who can tell the topic that you discussed Solving Word Problem Involving
yesterday? Fraction Sir!

So, what is fraction? It is part of a whole Sir!

Very good!

C. Establishing Purpose of the Lesson

Just like yesterday and the other day that
we discussed we will still be using (Students listen attentively)
“George Polya’s Steps” because it is still
solving word problem.

So, what are those questions again? - “What is asked?”

- “What are the given values?”
- “What operations should be
used?”
- “Write your solution.”
- “Check your answer.”
Very good!

Now, let’s have an activity. I’ll be grouping

you into 2 groups again and will be giving
you a problem situation to solve as a (Students listen attentively)
team. Questions are also given in the
paper that I’ll be giving and answer it
silently.

Is that clear? Yes Sir!

Problem 1 – Group 1

Cecile buys a laptop. The original price is

₱ 25,000 . If the sale price is 80% of the
original price, how much does she pay for
the laptop?

Group 1 and 2 answered.

Problem 2 – Group 2

Princess gets a 15% discount for guitar

and ends up paying just ₱ 2,380 for it.
How much is the original price of the
guitar without the discount?

Good job group 1 and 2!

Now, based on our activity. Do you have (Student’s answer may vary)
any idea if what is our topic today?

Well, our topic is solving word problem

but now we will be involving decimal and
percent.

Objectives:

D. Presenting Our topic for today is about solving word

examples/instances of the problems involving integers.
new lesson
Now what is integers? (students answer may vary)

Integers is a whole number (not a

fractional number) that can be positive,
negative, or zero.

Examples:
-5, 1, 5, 8, 97, and 3,043

Here is an example of solving word (students listen attentively)

problem involving integers.

Ana, with her doll, goes up the

stairs by 8 steps. Unfortunately,
she drops her doll and has landed
on 3rd step. How many steps
should Ana go down to get her
doll?

Using the “George Polya’s Steps”

Step 1 is – Understand the problem.

In solving a problem, what is the first thing

we need to know or understand? If what is the problem all about Sir!

That’s right! So, we must first know the

what was being asked in the situation and
also the given numbers to be solve.

Step 2 – Devise a plan.

In devising a plan since this is mathematics.

We must also know what operations to be Yes Sir!
use to solve the problem, am I right?

Step 3 – Carry out the plan

How will we carry out the plan?

By writing the solution Sir!
Very good students!

Then step 4 – look back

In step 4, we will be going to recheck our

answers. (students listen attentively)

Then write down the final answer in words.

Do we understand class?
Yes Sir!
And those are the four step that needs to
be remembered.

F. Discussing new concepts A. What is asked in problem? How many steps should Ana go down to ge
and practicing new skill #2 her doll?

B. What are the given values? 8 steps and 3rd step

C. What operation should be used? Subtraction or minus

D. Write your solution. 8–3=5

E Check your answer. 5+3=8

So the final answer is? Ana should go down 5 step on

the stairs.
Very good!
G. Developing mastery

Since you already answered it. Get your

notebook then answer individually the (students participating)
problem that will be given.

Problem Given:

Mang Tomas has bought shirts for

his 5 sons. Each shirt cost P180. How
much does he pay for all the shirts?

Who can write down the board “what is

asked?”

Next, “what are the given values?”

(Written on the board)
“What operation should be used?” How much does he pay for all the
shirts?
“Show your solution”
P180 and 5
Then “who wants to do rechecking?”
Multiplication
Very good class!
180 x 5 = 900

900/180 = 5

H. Finding practical
application of concepts and Since we all know how to solve word To know what we should do Sir
skills in daily living problem, why do you think solving a word whenever we encounter those kind
problem is important to our daily lives? of situation or problem.

Yes, and also because they challenge us to

improve our understanding, our memory,
and our creativity.

l. Making generalization Good job class!

and abstraction about the
lesson You guys did very well. And I can see that
you already got the idea in solving word
problem involving integers.
A short recall:
Integers is a whole number that can
What are Integers again?
be positive, negative, or zero.
Very well said!
Step 1 is – Understand the problem
What are the 4 Steps that needs to be
Step 2 – Devise a plan
remembered in solving word problem
Step 3 – Carry out the plan
involving integers?
Then step 4 – look back
That’ right!
“What is asked?”
How about the questions or phrase in
“What are the given values?”
each step?
“What operation should be used?”
“Show your solution”
“Check your answer”
Very good!
J. Evaluating learning
Now get ½ sheet of paper and answer the Answers:
word problem using George Polya’s Steps. a. What is asked?
- What is the weight remaining
Juan carries 12kg of rice. He finds it
Kg of rice?
heavy, so he removes a weight of
b. What are the given values?
3kg. What is the weight remaining
- 12kg and 3kg
kg of rice? c. What operation should be
used?
- Subtraction
d. Write your solution.
- 12 – 3 = 9
e. Check your answer.
- 9 + 3 = 12

Final Answer: The remaining weight

of rice that Juan carries is 9kg.
K. Assignment Make advance research on your next
topic and that is solving word problems
involving fractions.

Good bye class! Good bye and thank you Sir Joshua!
