I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Construct basic geometric shapes such as angles, perpendicular lines, and
bisectors using a compass and straightedge.
b. Use a compass and straightedge to bisect line segments and angles accurately.

II. CONTENT
A. Topic: Geometrical Constructions
B. Materials: Hand-outs, Pen, Tarpaper, laptop
C. Reference: Math-Quarter 3

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Quick “Kamustahan”

B. Motivation
The teacher will ask the students to observe the sketches of a human face if they see
the transition of the drawing from an incomplete sketch to a recognizable face.

Questions:
1. Based on the sketches, how can you describe the lines (or
segments) used to sketch a face?
2. What is the purpose of those lines?
3. Where do you think can you apply these skills in constructing face
sketches.

C. Lesson Proper
 Discuss the lesson to the students.
 The teacher will explain to the class how to do measurements and
constructions, appropriate tools are needed. Below are tools you need for this
lesson.

STRAIGHTEDGE COMPASS
-Tools used to draw lines, segments, and rays -Tool used to construct angles

Activity 1 : How to Bisect a Segment

Task: Construct the bisector of 𝐽̅̅𝐾̅.

Procedure

STEP 1: Set-up your compass such that the tips

cover slightly more than half the length of 𝐽̅̅𝐾̅.
At point J, draw an arc as
shown.

STEP 2. Using the same set-up of the

compass, at point K, repeat STEP 1.

STEP 3: Connect the points of intersection of

the two arcs. Name this segment - ̅𝐿̅𝑁̅ .
STEP 4: Name the point of intersection of 𝐽̅̅𝐾̅
and ̅𝐿̅𝑁̅ as Point M.
D. Application
The teacher will ask the students to do the steps to Use a compass and
straightedge to bisect line segments and angles accurately.

Here are the steps:

1. Draw a line segment AB of any length. This will be one side of the equilateral
triangle.
2. With your compass at A, draw an arc above the line segment. Then, without
changing the compass width, draw another arc above the line segment from B.
These arcs should intersect at a point.
3. Draw line segments from A and B to the point where the arcs intersect.

E. Generalization
The teacher will then briefly summarize the main activity of the lesson, on how to
bisect a segment using a compass and straightedge. They will remind the students of
the steps they followed and the importance of precision in geometric construction.

IV. EVALUATION

Directions: Use a compass and straightedge to bisect the segment

1. Draw a line segment that is 8 cm long.

2. Draw a line segment of any length. Measure the two resulting segments to confirm
they are equal in length.
3. Draw two-line segments of different lengths. Bisect each segment. Compare the
lengths of the resulting segments.
4. Draw a line segment. Bisect the segment. Then, bisect one of the resulting segments.
Measure all three segments to confirm the lengths are correct.
5. Draw a line segment that is 10 cm long. Bisect the segment. Without measuring,
estimate the length of each resulting segment.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Draw a line segment that is 12 cm long. Use your compass and straightedge to bisect the
segment. Show your work and label your diagram clearly.

VI. REFLECTION

A. Number of learners who earned 80% on the

formative assessment.

B. Number of learners who require additional

activities for remediation

C. Did the remedial lesson work? No. of

learners who caught up with the lessons

D. No. of learners who require remediation.

E. Which of my teaching strategies worked
well? Why did these works?

F. What difficulties did I encounter? Which

my principal or supervisor can help me
solve?

G. What innovation of localized materials did

I use/discover which I wish to share with
other teachers?
