16 (b) This shows that the melting point decreases as the pressure 1
increases.
It also shows that as ice melts, its volume decreases, 1
indicating that the density of ice is lower than that of liquid water 1
16 (c) When solid water (ice) at X is heated under constant pressure, its’
temperature increases as indicated by the dotted line on the graph
below.

Y OR ANY SYMBOL
At Y, ice starts to sublime, changing from the solid state into the
1
gaseous state without passing through the liquid state.
1
During sublimation, the temperature remains constant.
When all the ice has sublimed, continued heating will cause the
temperature of the water vapour to rise.

Oxygen atom has two lone pair electrons. So each H2O molecules 1
can form two intermolecular hydrogen bonding. 1
Nitrogen atom in ammonia has only one lone pair electron. Thus 1
each NH3 molecule can form only one intermolecular hydrogen 1
bonding.

The graph is a straight line with a negative gradient. 1
This shows that the rate of reaction against the concentration of X is
a constant. 1
Thus, the reaction is zero order with respect to X.
19 (b) (ii) The order of reaction is the sum of the powers of the concentration 1
of the reactants in the rate equation, if rate = k[A]m[B]n
Thus, the order of reaction = m + n 1
