1–2 Chapter 1: Basic Concepts & Measurements
Definition of terms (population, sample, parameter, statistic, etc.); Variables and levels of measurement;
Summation and other statistical notation
3 Chapter 2: Data Collection and Sampling
Census vs. Survey; Methods of Data Collection; Sampling Design; Probabilistic (random, systematic,
cluster, stratified); Non-probabilistic (quota, purposive, convenience); Determining sample size
4- 5 Chapter 3: Descriptive Measures
Central measures; Measures of dispersion; Other measures of location: percentile, quartile & decile
6 Chapter 4: Data Presentation
Tabular: Frequency Dist. Table (FDT), Crosstabulation; Graphical: Bar graph/ line graph; Circle graph &
pictograph
7- 8 Chapter 5: Probability & Distributions
Basic Concepts; Counting techniques; Fundamental principle of counting: Permutation, Combination;
Probability; Random Variables: Discrete random variables, Continuous random variables; Binomial
Distribution; Normal Distribution
Week 9 – First Major Examination
10 - 11 Chapter 6: Hypothesis Testing & Diagnostics
Hypothesis Testing; Assumptions of parametric tests; One-sample test: Z-test, T-test
12 - 14 Chapter 7: Tests on Comparing Population Parameters
Assumptions of parametric test (normality, homoscedasticity); T-test for independence & Mann-
Whitney U test; T-test for paired samples & Wilcoxon signed test; ANOVA & Kruskal-Wallis test
15 - 17 Chapter 8: Correlation Analysis & Regression
Scatter plot; Assumptions of parametric test (linearity, normality, homoscedasticity,
multicolinearity); Parametric test: Pearson R correlation; Non-parametric tests: Spearman-rho,
Kendall-Tau; Chi-square for independence
Regression model (Simple and Multiple Linear)
