College of Teacher Education
FIRST SEMESTER

I. COURSE TITLE : M 104 / ELEMENTARY STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

II. PRE-REQUISITE : None
III. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course equips the students with the basic statistical tools to understand various phenomena. The topics
on mean, variance, sampling, and estimation eventually allow the students to be able to perform hypothesis
testing on real-life problems from different fields. The course includes applications and data analysis with
computations carried out using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).

IV. INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAM OUTCOMES

A. Articulate and discuss the latest development in the specific field of practice.
B. Effectively communicate orally and in written both in English and Filipino
C. Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
D. Act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility
E. Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” (R.A. 7722)

V. CTE PROGRAM OUTCOMES

A. Articulate the relationship of education to larger historical, social, cultural, and political processes.
B. Facilitate learning using a wide range of teaching methodologies in various types of environment.
C. Develop alternative teaching approaches for diverse learners.
D. Apply skills in curriculum development, lesson planning, materials development, instructional delivery and
education.

F. Practice professional and ethical teaching standards to respond to the demands of the community.
G. Pursue lifelong leaning for professional and professional growth.

VI. PROGRAM OUTCOMES FOR BSED

A. Demonstrate in depth-understanding of the development of the adolescent learners.
M 104 / ELEMENTARY STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY 1
B. Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of various learning areas in the secondary curriculum.
C. Create and utilize materials appropriate t the secondary level to enhance teaching and learning.
D. Design and implement assessment tools and procedure to measure secondary learning outcomes.

V. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students with 85% proficiency are expected to:
1. Understand the nature and importance of statistics and probability;
2. Identify and define various terms used in statistics;
3. Organize data/ raw scores in terms of arrangement, rank, and graphs;
4. Create a frequency distribution table for ungrouped data;
5. Summarize data in terms of different measures: central tendency, position, variability, and shape;
6. Calculate and interpret skewness and kurtosis of data;
7. Compute for correlation values of raw scores;
8. Determine scores under the normal curve and apply it to problem solving; and
9. Use the fundamental counting principle, permutation, combination, and probability theory in solving real-
world problems.
