Motion in A Plane - I M

The document defines and illustrates various terms in vector algebra: (1) Equal vectors have the same magnitude and direction. (2) A negative vector has the same magnitude but opposite direction. (3) Modulus is the length or magnitude of a vector. (4) A unit vector indicates direction, having a magnitude of 1. (5) A fixed vector's initial point is fixed, while a free vector's is not. (6) Collinear vectors act along the same or parallel lines. (7) Coplanar vectors act in the same plane. (8) Co-initial vectors share the same initial point. (9) Co-terminus vectors share the same terminal point.

SOME DEFINITIONS IN VECTOR

ALGEBRA
Define and illustrate the following terms :
(i) Equal vectors (ii) Negative of a vector
(iüi) Modulus ofa vector (iv) Unit vector
(v) Fixed vector (vi) Free vector
(vii) Collinear vectors (viii) Coplanar vectors
(x) Co-initial vectors (x) Co-terminus vectors.
(i) Equal vectors. Tvo vectors are said to be equal if
theyhave the same magnitude and same direction. In
Fig A and Bare two equal vectors.

(i) Negative of a vector. The negative of a vector is
defined as another vector having the same magnitude
but having an opposite direction. In Fig. vector

(iii) Modulus of a vector. The modulus of a vector
means the length or the magnitude of that vector. It Fie
is a scalar quantity.

(iv) Unit vector. Aunit vector is a vector of unit
magnitude drawn in the direction of a given vector.

opposite directions (0 = 180°) are called
antiparallel vectors.
