MARZO- FORM VIII

CLASS N° 1

 To talk about students´ holidays.

 To revise tenses.

WARM UP ACTIVITY: (GET TO KNOW YOUR CLASSMATE)

To break the ice and introduce sts, the T will ask sts to say some facts about themselves, such as living
place, age, school they go to, etc.

FOLLOW UP:

 WRITING: (SUMMER HOLIDAYS)

The T will ask sts to write about what usually do while they are on holiday and what they did for this
summer holidays. The idea is to check both present and past tenses and the sts´ basic writing abilities. Since they
are working on the computer, sts can type their text and send it privately to the Zoom chat. The piece must not
be longer than 30-40 words. When everyone finishes, the T will copy-paste a writing on the screen. She will ask
sts to skim the text and say whether what they did was similar or not.

 SPEAKING:

Each st will be sent a piece writing. They will be given some time to read the text and then they will talk
about the information it has. Since they don’t know who the writer is, they will use “This person/ They/ He/She”.
For example, This person usually goes to the beach. However, this year he/she went to the mountain. The T will
also make a list of some connectors they may use (in addition, however, although, even though, etc) and some
expressions like keen on, fond of, etc. When each person finishes, he/she will try to guess who the writer of that
piece is.

 READING COMPREHENSION: (STORY)

As a pre-reading activity, The T will give sts a copy with a story (attachment) and will read it in order to
tell the T what is the main topic. She will also copy some questions for them to answer.

Questions:

1. Which is the family´s living place?


2. Why are they staying at a hotel?
3. Where were they driving?
4. What happened while the man was filling up the car?
5. How long has the penguin been at the gas station?
6. What did the cashier advise the man to do?
7. What did the man decide to do with the penguin?
8. Where is the family going to take the penguin?

 GRAMMAR: (TENSES REVISION)

To check sts level, the T will tell them to complete the gaps with the correct tense of the verbs in
brackets. They can use Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Past Simple, Past Continuous, Will
and Be going to.

ROUND UP: (EXPECTATION VS REALITY)

Sts will take 2 selfies/pictures. In the first picture they will frame their ideal holiday. They can put on any clothes,
accessories or they could choose an existing picture at a different place. In the second one, they will portray
their holidays in coronavirus´time. The T will enable them to share their screens so they can show their “meme”.

CLASS N° 2

 To revise last year´s topics.

 To encourage communication among students.

WARM UP ACTIVITY: (A CLASSMATE´S PORTRAIT)

To revise some of the topics, sts will be grouped in pairs. They will have to make a description of their
classmate. They will have to use has got, vocabulary connected to parts of the body and could/may/might to talk
about his/her personality. These last structures will be revised on the board. In connection to the points they
must take into account, the T will give sts some words to guide them. They will also use expressions like keen on,
fond of, mad about, can´t stand, I reckon, etc.

 Likes and dislikes

FOLLOW UP:

 SPEAKING:

To break the ice, the sts will talk about their personalities, likes and dislikes. In this way, sts will get to
know each other while breaking the ice and check whether their predictions were correct or not.

 GRAMMAR: (MIXED TENSES)

Sts will play jeopardy online. The group who gets more points at the end of the game will decide on a
forfeit for the other team.

ROUND UP: the losing team will do the forfeit on camera.

CLASS N° 3

AIMS:

 To work on Present tenses.

 To work on Past tenses.

WARM UP ACTIVITY: (AN EMBARASSING SITUATION)

To start the lesson, sts will take turns to talk about an embarrassing situation they, or some
acquaintance, experienced.

FOLLOW UP:

 GRAMMAR: (PRESENT TENSES)

The T will give sts a short text about a girl´s first day of class (see attachment). Sts will scan the text and
say what the main topic is. Then, sts will talk about their first day of class.

Sts will now complete the text using the correct present form of the verb in brackets. They can use
Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous. The T will then
copy the answers on the board. In case there is a doubt or somebody wrote something different as an answer,
the rest of the class will explain why that option is not correct/possible.

 WRITING: (STORY)

Sts will invent a possible ending for Jane´s experience. The piece of writing must be rather short (50-70
words).

 GRAMMAR: (PAST TENSES)

The T will now give sts the second part of Jane´s story (see attachment). They will first scan the text to
check whether their predictions were correct or not. Then, they will complete the gaps using past tenses. They
must use Past Simple, Past Continuous and Past Perfect. This exercise will be checked on the board.

ROUND UP:

The T will ask sts to say what they would do if something similar happened to them. She will also ask
them if they would have done the same things Jane and why.

CLASS N° 4

AIMS:

 To work on Future tenses.

 To revise Reported Speech.

WARM UP ACTIVITY:

To begin with the class, the T will ask sts to sit in pairs. Each member of the group will talk about his/her
ambitions and plans. The idea is to use a variety of Future tenses (Present Simple, Present Continuous, Will, Be
going to, Future Continuous and Future Perfect). Sts can take down notes for the following activity.

FOLLOW UP:

 SPEAKING: (MY BUCKET LIST)

The T will write draw a person kicking a bucket and sts will guess the idiom that is being represented on
the board. The st who guesses correctly will have the chance to speculate about the meaning of that idiom. If
he/she fails to guess the correct meaning, another st will give it a try. Once the idiom has been explained, the T
will write some phrases with one word missing. All the phrases mean to perish or die. The idea is that sts guess
all the words that are missing. A point will be given for each correct answer. At the end of the activity, the
winner will get some candies as a prize.

After the guessing activity, the T will copy a chart with some information in it. Sts will write sentences based on
the information written. They must use Future Continuous and Future Perfect.

 LISTENING: (ADAM´S BUCKET LIST)

Sts will first try to predict the words that complete the different gaps. Sts will write their answers using a pencil,
so they can then check how many answers were correct. Then, the T will play a recording about Adam´s bucket
list. Sts will listen to it twice and they will complete the missing information.

CLASS N° 5

AIMS:

 To keep on revising past tenses.

 To develop students´oral skills.

WARM UP ACTIVITY:

To begin with the class, the T will Short video “The Present” (https://bit.ly/3bng5eZ). Ss’ will be shown a
short video. Before watching it, the T will ask Ss what they think it is going to be about. Once the video is over,
the T will ask the Ss to express their own ideas as regards the video itself and to answer some questions.
QUESTIONS
- What would you do if you were in the boy’s shoes?
- What were the boy’s feelings when he saw the dog? Did he accept it or not?
- What was the dog’s reaction? Did he feel bad because he wasn’t accepted?

FOLLOW UP:

 GRAMMAR: (CROSSWORD)

The Ss’ will be given a crossword in which they have to complete with the past form of some verbs. The
first st to finish will receive a prize.
Once the crossword is checked, sts will be assigned 3 exercises to complete using past tenses (see
attachment).

ROUND UP:

The class will be dived in two teams. The T will explain how to play this game: Ss will be given a category
(i.e adjectives, countries, body parts, feelings, etc..) and one Ss from one group will try to complete the alphabet
in 2 minutes (or 3 minutes) writing a word beginning with each letter of the alphabet. After the time limit, the T
will count the amount of words that are right and those are going to be the points of the group. The same will
happen with the other group, but with different vocabulary.

CLASS N° 6

AIMS:

 To revise vocabulary about celebrations.

 To develop students´ listening skills.

 To work on FCE listening part 3.

WARM UP ACTIVITY:

To begin with the class, sts will say something about them. The statement can be true or false and the
rest of the class has to decide if it´s a lie or not. If a st lies and is discovered, he/she will have a forfeit.

FOLLOW UP:

 VOCABULARY: (CELEBRATIONS)

Sts will be asked to name popular celebrations. The T will then show them some pictures of “weird”
celebrations round the world. After this activity, the T will share her screen and sts will take some seconds to
match the celebration with its definition.

 LISTENING COMPREHENSION: (CELEBRATIONS)

Sts will listen to a recording twice and they need to work on 2 different tasks. The exercise will be shared
on the screen and sts will write down the answers on their copybooks.

Exercise 1: match the speaker with the celebration they are talking about.

Exercise 2: complete the sentence with the appropriate number of speaker.

ROUND UP:

Compare the 2020 holidays to previous ones. Sts will be asked to use comparative adjectives.

CLASS N° 7

AIMS:

 To revise Passive Voice.

WARM UP ACTIVITY:

To begin with the class, sts will play a short game. For this activity, the T will share the screen.
There will be some squares with covered words. The idea is for sts to choose a square. Most probably,
the word that appears is quite ridiculous. The idea is to form silly Passive structures.

Sts will play snakes and ladders. The first person to get to the final line, wins.

ROUND UP: RIDICULOUS SENTENCES

Sts have to write passive voice sentences. The only rule is to use all the words given by the T and, of
course, passive voice. The words order can be altered.

CLASS N° 8

AIMS:

 To revise vocabulary related to sports.

 To learn about weird sports around the world.

 To revise Conditional sentences.

WARM UP ACTIVITY:

To begin with the class, sts will play a short game. In turns, sts have to mention a sport. They have 7
seconds to come up with a word. Sts who run out of ideas, lose and are left out of the game.

FOLLOW UP:

 VOCABULARY: (PROTECTIVE GEAR)

The T will ask sts to put on any protective gear they have. Once they are done, they will be told to look
up the English word for it. Possible words:

Helmet

Mouthguard

Shin guards

Elbow pads

Knee pads

Knee guards.

 GRAMMAR: (CONDITIONALS)

Sts will be shown a video about weird sports. The first time they watch it, they will answer the question
“If you had to choose one of the sports, which one would it be and why?” After giving their answers, sts will be
given some sentences to complete:

-You should try korfball if…

-If you are …, you should give axe throwing a try.

-Would you practise …, if you had the chance?

- I would have come …. If I had participated in a Mizoram pillow fighting competition.

-If I could, I´d love to try …

-If I had done Fierljeppen, I would have felt …

 GAME: (CONDITIONALS)

For this game, the T divides the class into 2 groups. Team 1 goes first. They will see some scrambled
words on the screen. The idea is for them to unscramble the words to form sentences with the condition that a
st can say only one word and the other says the 2nd one until they complete the sentence. The group to
complete the 3 sentences in less time, wins.

Sentences:

1st team

What would you do if you saw a ghost in the shower?

I would have eaten 8 tacos if I had been hungry.

John and Tom will come to the pary if there is good music.

2nd team

How many hotcakes would you eat if I baked some for you?

Lia would have been angry if you hadnt told her the truth.

If Peter and his brother pass the exam, they will enter university.

CLASS N° 9

AIMS:

 To revise modal verbs.

WARM UP ACTIVITY:

To start off with the class, the T will ask sts to mention rules they have to follow, either at school
or at home. The T will give 2 examples on her own: “in my house we can´t wear sunglasses or a cap
when eating” and “we couldn’t dye or hair nor paint our nails when I attended Sunrise School”.

FOLLOW UP:

 SPEAKING: (SILLY RULES AROUND THE WORLD)

The T will share a link to the students´group. They will skim the article to find out about some silly rules

After reading the list, sts will tell which one was the most ridiculous rule for them.

 GRAMMAR: (MODAL VERBS)

Sts will write 5 sentences about stupid rules. They must use 5 different modal verbs.

Example: You can´t chew gum in Singapore.

After sharing the sentences they wrote, sts will solve an online exercises on modal verbs.

ROUND UP: NEVER HAVE I EVER

Sts will need a dish/bowl and some flour. They will put the flour on the bowl. The T will say sentences
and the st who has ever done that, will put the face in the flour.

Examples:
- never have I ever stuck chewing gum under a table.
-never have I ever lied to my parents.

March, 12th

Story to work on Speaking, Reading and Grammar

This story (be) about a man and her wife. They (live) in a huge house in Paris but at the
moment they (stay) at a hotel because some people (redecorate) their house.

One day, they (drive) to the countryside to visit some old friends when they
(realise) they needed to stop for gas. The man (fill up) the car when he (see) a
penguin standing by a pump. He (think) it was very strange and when he went to the cashier to pay,
he asked, 'why is there a penguin standing next to the pump?' The cashier replied, 'I don't know. It
(be) there since dawn.' The man replied: 'Well, we can't leave it there, it's too dangerous. He might have an
accident. What should I do?' The cashier suggested them they should take it to the zoo.' 'That's a good idea,' the
man said. 'I (take) him. We (go) to the zoo tomorrow'. So the man and his wife
put the penguin in the car and (drive) away. One week later, the man and his wife
(return) to the same station to fill up the car...and the penguin was still in the car. When the man went to pay,
the cashier asked him, ' you (not/ take) the penguin to the zoo?' The man replied, 'we did.
It had a really good time at the zoo, so we decided that tonight we (take) him to a fish
restaurant.'

Jane´s diary: Present tenses

Tuesday, 30th. May

It (1) (be) 8:00 in the morning now and I (2) (go) to my new school.
Today is my first day and I (3) (feel) really nervous at the moment. In fact, I (4) (never/ be)
so nervous in my life. I (5) (just/arrive) at school. I can see some children who (6)

Hi Diary. It´s me again. Today I will write about my first day of school, which was quite disappointing. As I
