Cleaning Procedures For Floors

Regular cleaning is important to maintain the appearance, safety, and service life of resinous floors. Floors should be swept daily and cleaned one to two times per day using a recommended daily cleaner to remove debris. For heavy soils, a weekly deep cleaning using an alkaline degreaser is recommended. Proper cleaning includes sweeping, applying cleaner, agitating with a brush, rinsing, and removing water to prevent slips.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES

WHY CLEAN YOUR FLOOR?

Appearance: Your floor will look it’s best when it is clean. By instituting a scheduled cleaning program, the floor will
continue to look and perform as it did when it was first installed.

Safety: No matter how aggressive the texture of your floor, if it is not cleaned properly, it can present a slip hazard.
Emulsifying, rinsing and drying your floor properly will reduce the risk of a slip and fall incident.

Service life: The lifetime of your floor will depend upon how well you clean it. Particularly in aggressive use areas
such as kitchens and machine shops, contaminates such as oil, dirt and grease work with water and bacteria to attack
your floor. This will lead to damage of the floor.

FLOOR CLEANING PROCESS:

The best way to clean a Sunbelt floor is to use the recommended cleaning product and follow a five-step process.

The five steps are:

1. Sweeping – always sweep the floor thoroughly before cleaning
2. Application – apply the cleaning product on the floor surface
3. Agitation – movement of the cleaning product with a mop, broom, floor scrubber, etc.
4. Removal – removing the cleaning product from the surface of the floor.
5. Rinsing – rinsing the floor with clean water and removing the rinse water from the floor.

Cleaning Equipment:

Sweeping Broom or dust mop

Application Mop, deck brush, sprayer
Agitation Stiff bristle deck brush or automatic floor scrubber with stiff bristle brush (do not
use buffing or nylon pads)
Removal Squeegee or wet vacuum
Rinsing Squeegee or wet vacuum

RECOMMENDED CLEANING PRODUCTS:

Determining the correct cleaning product for your floor is based on the amount and type of soiling the floor receives.
We recommend two cleaners that were designed specifically for resinous floors; Daily Use Cleaner & Brightener and
Degreaser.

Daily Use Cleaner & Brightener is a neutral PH product with optical brighteners for cleaning and brightening
resinous floors. No rinsing required.

Heavy Duty Non Butyl Degreaser is a highly concentrated alkaline degreaser that instantly emulsifies oils and grease.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FLOOR:

Week 1 - newly applied floor

1. Do not wash for at least 36 hours (avoid water).
2. After 36 hours, wash floor with warm water only (no soap).

Week 2 – newly applied floor

1. Flood area with warm water
2. Dissolve Daily Use Cleaner & Brightener in water and apply with a mop. Use deck brush to agitate if necessary.
3. Rinse floor and remove excess water to drains or wet vacuum.

PRECAUTIONS – THINGS TO AVOID THE FIRST 2-WEEKS - premature exposure may cause
permanent staining or discoloration
- No sanitizers or chlorine based cleaners
- No solvents or acids
- No steam cleaning
- No abrasive cleaning methods during the first week after installation

Daily cleaning procedures for a fully cured floor

1. Sweep floor to remove loose debris.
2. Dissolve Daily Use Cleaner & Brightener with warm water in a mop bucket and apply to floor.
3. Medium to heavy textured floors may need a stiff bristle deck brush or automatic floor scrubber.
4. Rinse floor and remove excess water to drains or wet vacuum.

PRECAUTIONS – THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN CLEANING YOUR FLOOR

- Never use a mop to clean a floor that is greasy or oily
- Make sure the brushes on the automatic scrubber are in good shape
- When using a deck brush, choose a medium/stiff brush
- When removing solution with a squeegee, use a soft neoprene one
- Wax strippers should never be used on a resinous floor
- Spills should be cleaned up immediately to prevent staining and as a safety precaution

Weekly maintenance for a fully cured floor (deep cleaning)

1. Dissolve Heavy Duty Degreaser with warm water in mop bucket and apply liberally.
2. Buff in Heavy Duty Degreaser using floor-buffing machine with hard bristle scrub brush attached.
3. Rinse floor and remove excess water to drains or wet vacuum (if the floor has a slippery feel after it has dried,
the floor has not been cleaned properly)

Sunbelt resinous floors are designed for heavy traffic areas that typically accumulate foreign matter. Because of this, the
recommended maintenance schedule for most areas is once or twice daily cleaning and regular “touch-ups” for spills.
Due to the amount of debris, vigorous cleaning may be necessary. Vigorous cleaning may cause some loss of gloss but
does not affect performance or integrity of the floor. Less frequent cleaning results in a slick film buildup of foreign
matter, which diminishes the appearance, safety and service life of the floor.
