I. SURFACES
FLOORS
TERRAZO FLOORS
METHOD
Daily
1) Sweep with a soft brush broom collect the dust with a dust pan in conjunction with a
dust pan
2) With warm detergent water and deck brush and floor cloth /wet mop, mop the floor to
remove the dirt.
3) Remove stubborn stains with scouring pad a solution of water detergent.
4) Collect the sop with a floor cloth and squeeze out into a sop bucket.
5) Rinse with deck brush in conjunction with a floor cloth /wet mop and warm plain water
to remove traces of detergent solution.
6) Dry with a dry mop/floor cloth.
7) Allow to air and dry completely
8) Buff with a dry mop /buffing pad to remove any fluffs.
Weekly
1) Sweep clean as above
2) Spray buff if polished with scrubber and a green scouring pad and spray buff solution
3) Scrub if very dirty, rinse and dry.
MONTHLY
1)Sweep
2)Strip off the polish or seal using neutral detergents or stripper respectively
3)Re-polish using an emulsion polish or reseal.

GRANITE AND GRANOTHILIC FLOOR
Daily
1. Sweep with a soft brush broom from the furthest corner towards the door.
2. Collect the sop with a floor cloth and squeeze out into a sop bucket.
3. Wrap dust in a newspaper leaf and dispose in a waste bin.
4. Buff with a dry mop /buffing pad.
Weekly
1. Sweep as above
2. Mop the floor with warm detergent water and deck brush and floor cloth / wet mop, squeeze
(excessive water wears out the glossy surface therefore squeeze out the mop /floor cloth well).
3. Scrub stubborn marks and in between the tiles with a hand brush/deck brush.
4. Rinse using a floor cloth in conjunction with a deck brush/wet mop and warm plain water.
In all cases attend to dirt embedded in groves especially the wall and floor junction. (If not
rounded).

CERRAMIC FLOOR

1) Sweep clean(as above – STEP 1,2,3)
2) If very dirty, scrub neutral detergents in warm water with a scrubbing machine (use brush
attachment)/deck brush.
3) Rinse using a floor cloth in conjunction with a deck brush/wet mop and warm plain water.
4) Remove stubborn marks with a fine abrasive –indirectly (i.e. wrapped in a cloth)
In all cases attend to dirt embedded in groves especially the wall and floor junction. (If not
rounded) and the joints between the tiles.

1. Sweep with a soft brush broom.
2. Collect the rubbish using adjusts pan brush in conjunction with a dust pan.
3. Wrap dust in a newspaper leaf and dispose in a waste bin.
4. Dust the skirting board using a fluffy duster.
5. Buff the floor using a deck brush in conjunction with a buffering pad.

7. Apply emulsion polish to the floor using a polish applicator /clean floor cloth with a deck brush.
(Apply evenly).
8. Repeat the process twice (allow the polish to dry completely before the next application)

STAIN REMOVAL FROM CARPET
Wax
1. Scrape of the excessive wax.
2. Place the grease proof paper /brown paper on top of the stain
3. With a hot iron ,iron the paper on the stain to enable it to melt into the paper
4. Move the paper severally and repeat the process until most of the stain is removed.
5. Remove the remaining stain with a grease solvent e.g. home dry cleaner.
Ink stain – fountain pen –dub with a pad soaked in cold water then clean remaining stain with
cold water and detergent solutions .Rinse and dry
Food stain
1. Scrape off the food particles.
2. Dab the stain severally with Ecolab stain remover.
3. Wash out traces of the stain remover.
4. Rinse and dry the surface
Shoe polish stain
1. Using a cleaning cloth and turpentine rub the stain from outside to the inside to
avoid transfer of stain.
2. Repeat the process always changing stained are of the cleaning cloth for the
cleaner part.
3. Clean out the turpentine with warm shampoo solution.
4. Rinse out the shampoo and dry it.

2. Damp clean the metal frame work with warm detergent water and a cleaning cloth to
remove dirt and detergent.
3. Rinse with warm clean water using a cleaning cloth remove dirt and detergent.
4. Dry using a dry cleaning cloth to fasten the drying process. ( change the cleaning solution
whenever it is dry)
5. Clean the metal handle according to type. (If metal polish is used, damp clean of the metal
polish, rinse and dry.)
6. Buff the handle to shine.
7. Clean the glass pane using window cleaner and a cleaning cloth( pay attention to the
corners)

16. Clean the mirror, using a window cleaner and rag /lint free cloth / chamois leather.

7. High dust the ceiling and light fixtures.

SWIMMING POOL
NB: high standards of hygiene are required therefore surfaces should be disinfected.
The surfaces of the sanitary facilities and changing room should be disinfected.

DAILY
1. Skim the water of the pool to remove surface scum and any litter that may fall on the water.
2. Remove sediments at the bottom of the pool.
3. Scrub the sides of the pool with sodium hypochlorite
4. Switch on water pump which helps filter the pool water
5. Add chlorine to water to keep the level of germs low
6. The PH is checked during the day at intervals and it must be maintained at 7.8
7. The PH is adjusted by the addition of sodium carbonate or sodium bisulphate to water.
