MASTER IN ENGLISH 2
WRITING
In this paper candidates are required to produce two pieces of writing. The theme in Part 1 is
compulsory. In Part 2 there are 4 options of themes for candidates to choose from.

2. Brainstorm ideas on a separate piece of paper.
3. Make sure your ideas are logical, coherent, objective and meaningful.
COMMUNICATIVE ACHIEVEMENT
1. Make sure the ideas you jotted down actually answer the task proposed.
2. Read your text and try to imagine a native speaker reading it. Can it be easily
understood?
ORGANISATION
1. Separate the ideas you came up with in groups and relate them to form paragraphs.
2. In the first paragraph identify what you are going to talk about.
3. Decide on how isolated sentences can be connected inside each paragraph (Are they a
simple sequence of arguments or facts? Are they opposed somehow? Is one the
consequence of the other?).

4. Remember that we start a new paragraph every time we change the subject. Make your
text simple

LANGUAGE
1. Check the vocabulary you are using.
a. Is the spelling correct?
b. Are the words appropriate to the task?
c. Do the words show some degree of sophistication?
(nice =interesting/important/fascinating/elaborate/satisfying, etc.). However,
don’t take risks, go for the correct forms.

TEXT GENRES
Texts for magazines or newspapers. They should interest and engage the
