Lesson Plan in Science 7

Content Standard : The learners demonstrate properties of metals and non-metals.

Performance Standards : The learners shall be able to prepare different
Concentrations of mixtures according to uses and
availability of materials.
Learning Competency and Code : Describe some properties of metals and non-
metals such as luster, malleability, ductility,
and
conductivity.
(S7MT-Ij-7)
Unpacked Competency: Describe the properties of metals and non-metals based on the
given samples.

Quarter: 1 Week: 10 Day: 1

I. Objectives:
At the end of 60 minutes, 100% of the learners are expected to:
1. Describe the properties of metals and non-metals based on the given
samples.

II. Content:

Subject Matter: Metals and non-metals

Integration
English
TLE , ICT

Strategies
Cooperative Learning - the students will be grouped and
will share their ideas to their fellow classmate.
Brainstorming - the students will brainstorm their answer to the
questions asked in the activities.
Question and Answer - the students will answer different questions asked by
the teacher and their classmates.

III. Learning Task:

ELICIT (Access prior knowledge).5 Minutes Materials/Assessment Tool

The teacher will group the student by three and provide a folder
containing a picture of either a metal, non-metals or metalloids. Let
them separate the materials on the table.

Ask the students to explain how materials are separated.

ENGAGE (Get the students’ minds focused on the topic (short; question or picture).5 minutes
The teacher will show a (milk can and copper wire), a (gold ring and
carbon rod). Let the student answer the guide question?

Guide Question:
1. What is the difference between a milk can and copper wire, a
gold ring and carbon rod? How are they similar?
EXPLORE (Provide students with a common experience). 20 minutes

Using the same group the teacher will provide a materials (metals, Materials:

Guide question:
A. Which of the following materials
1. Are Hard?
2. Can be straightened?
3. Can be folded?
4. Can be hammered into thin sheets?
5. Can be made into wires?
6. Can be cut with scissors?
7. Can be heated without changing into two or more
different substances.

2. paper clip and carbon rod?
3. chalk and paper?
4. milk can and paper?
5. electrical wire and gold ring?
C 1. Which of the materials do you consider metals? Nonmetal?
Explain your classification.

Explain

The students will present their output. The teacher will then give
inputs and concepts missed by the students.

Key Concepts:
Electrical wire, paper clips, milk can, gold ring and nails are all
metals. Carbon is non-metal. Paper and chalk are combinations
of certain compounds made up principally of carbon and oxygen,
which are both non-metals.

ELABORATE (Students apply the information learned in the Explain). 10 minutes

The teacher will show a video clip and ask the following questions
based on the video.
Guide question:
1. Which material in the video are metals, nonmetals and
metalloids?
2. What other properties of metals and non-metals can be used to
differentiate them?

Key Concept:
Metals have the following properties:
Ductile able to drawn into wire.
Malleable- can be hammered or pressed into thin
sheets or desirable shapes without breaking.
Luster( or Lustrous)- the quality of shine from a
reflected light.
Conductor- can conduct electricity.
EVALUATE (How will you know the students have learned the concept)? 5 minutes

The activity sheets and performance rating of the student will serve
as their scored. These are formative assessment tools of students
progress and understanding.

EXTEND (Deepen conceptual understanding through use in new context).5 minutes

Let the student identify the metals and non-metals used in;
a.)Household appliances.
b) transportation
c) Computers and electronic devices.

Reflection:
A. No. of learners achieve 80%: ____
B. No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation: _____
C. Did the remedial lessons work? _____
D. No. of learners who have caught up the lesson: _____
E. No. of learners who continue to require remediation: _____
F. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did these work? _____
G. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor help me solve? _____
H. What innovation or localized materials did I used/discover which I wish to share with
other teacher? _____
