English Welcome Speech

Good Morning to one and all present here.

As we gather here today in unity and spirit, we welcome the brand new day with open heart.
It is with immense joy and gratitude that we gather here today to celebrate the festival of
Onam.
Onam, a festival deeply rooted in the traditions of Kerala, is a time when the place is
adorned in vibrant colors and the air is filled with the sweet fragrance of flowers.
The people of Kerala come together to create “Pookkalam” and indulge in various
traditional games.

Now let’s listen to the story of Onam.

Once upon a time, there was a great king named Mahabali who ruled the land of Kerala
with justice and compassion.
He was so loved by his people that they begged the gods to let him return to Kerala one
year every year. The gods agreed, and Onam is the time when we celebrate King Mahabali's
homecoming.
According to the legend, Mahabali was a descendant of the demon king Bali who had
conquered the three worlds. Mahabali was a powerful and benevolent ruler, but he became
arrogant and challenged the gods. The gods, led by Vishnu, defeated Mahabali and
banished him to the netherworld.
However, Mahabali was still loved by his people, who continued to worship him.
One day, the people of Kerala prayed to Vishnu to let Mahabali return to them. Vishnu
agreed, and he appeared to Mahabali in the form of a dwarf named Vamana.
Vamana asked Mahabali for three steps of land. Mahabali agreed, not knowing that
Vamana was actually Vishnu in disguise.
Vamana grew in size with each step, and with his third step, he covered the entire earth.
Mahabali realized that he had been tricked, but he kept his word and offered his head to
Vamana.
Vishnu was impressed by Mahabali's gesture, and he granted him a boon. He said that
Mahabali could return to Kerala once every year.
This is the time of Onam, when the people of Kerala celebrate the homecoming of their
beloved king.
Onam is a time of peace, prosperity, and happiness. It is a time for families and
friends to come together and celebrate. It is a time to remember the legacy of King
