Std: 8 Subject Enrichment Activities (2021-22)


English
We all know that some jobs are more dangerous than the others. Truck
drivers, loggers, and construction workers are more likely to die on the job
than most others. Fire-fighters and police officers also face more than the
average amount of risk while at work. It’s expected that people who take on
these jobs understand the risks and follow guidelines to stay as safe as
possible.

But what would you do if your job suddenly became much more
dangerous? And what if your workplace was unable to follow
recommended guidelines to reduce that increased risk? That’s the scenario
faced by almost all the health workers especially in India during the second
wave of the pandemic.

Write a paragraph in about 150 words, describing the challenges faced by a


health worker. You could write from the perspective of a doctor or a nurse
or any other personnel.

History
Topic: From Trade to Territory
Objective: To help children unravel the story of a trading company becoming
a political power in India.
Activity: After the British conquest of Bengal, Calcutta grew from a small
village to a big city. Find out about the culture, architecture and the life of
Europeans and Indians of the city during the colonial period.
Plan/Procedure:
● Individual Activity
● Research has to be done to collect information with illustrations
● Map of India during British rule (also shade the province of Bengal)
● Handwritten and converted into pdf
● Not more than 4 pages (A4 sheets)

Chapter 1: Crop production and Management
Research study on Organic farming in the cultivation of
different crops in India .
Students are required to collect information on the above mentioned topic
from the internet involving its application and significance.
ALL THE INFORMATION COLLECTED SHOULD BE PRESENTED IN THE
FORM OF POWERPOINT PRESENTATION.
Number of slides: 10 -15.
Learning Objectives
Compare the advantages of major tools used for tilling and
ploughing to justify the variety of agricultural practices.
Analyze the quality of seeds with respect to their
germinability.
Compare the advantages of major tools used for sowing to
justify the variety of agricultural practices used in the country.
Distinguish between manure and fertilizers to identify ways
in which nutrients in soil are replenished.
Evaluate how weeds adversely affect the growth of plants
in order to justify their removal and control.
Learning Outcome
Differentiate between Kharif crops and Zaid crops.
Classify the cultivation of strawberries under the types of
crops- Rabi crops/ Kharif crops/ Zaid crops.
Applies learning of scientific concepts in day to day life in
increasing crop production with the available natural
resources.
Makes efforts to protect the environment by controlled use
of fertilizers and pesticides; suggesting ways to cope up with
environmental hazards etc.
