OBJECTIVES
To discuss the dangers of pornography into comprehensive sex
education programs for students.

To educate students on media literacy to help them critically

evaluate pornography's messages and effects.

To establish safe environments within schools for open dialogue

about pornography and offer support services for students facing
challenges related to its consumption.
WHAT IS PORNOGRAPHY?
The term pornography dates back to the early 19th
century in the English language. It comes from the
Greek language “Pornographos” which means to write
about sexual acts.

Pornography has been defined as sexual subject

material "such as a picture, video, or text" that is
intended for sexual arousal.
WHAT IS PORNOGRAPHY
ADDICTION?
Porn addiction is, in theory, when you can't stop
looking at porn, even if you want to. And the
obsession gets to the point that it interferes with
work, relationships, and other parts of daily life. It's
easy to understand how this could be a problem with
the widespread availability of internet porn today.
UNDERSTANDING
In pornography there have many questions and
reasons “Why pornography is still existing today in
the modern world?”
WHY PEOPLE HAVE INTEREST TO WATCH PORNS?
It is because of sexual pleasure, sexual curiosity, emotional
distraction or suppression, stress reduction, fantasy,
boredom avoidance, lack of sexual satisfaction, and self-
exploration.

WHY PORNOGRAPHY CREATED?

Pornography is created for sexual arousal, entertainment,
profit, exploration of sexuality, artistic expression, sex
education, and freedom of expression. However, with the
millions of pornographic images on the internet and around
the globe. Also, in the Philippines pornography is illegal.
HOW CAN ONE TELL IF THE
PORNOGRAPHY IS ILLEGAL?
Nude pictures or videos of anyone under the age
of 18 are illegal to possess.
Nude photos of anyone who is impaired (naturally
or through drug or alcohol use) can be illegal.
Nude images or performances of someone who is
unaware someone is photographing or recording
them
Psychological Effects of Pornography
Positive Effects:
Sexual Education: Some argue that pornography can serve as a source of sexual education, providing information
about anatomy, sexual practices, and relationships.
Stress Relief: For some individuals, pornography may serve as a form of sexual release and stress relief.

Negative Effects:
Addiction: Excessive consumption of pornography may lead to addiction-like behaviors, with individuals spending
increasing amounts of time viewing explicit content to achieve the same level of arousal.

Distorted Sexual Expectations: Exposure to unrealistic portrayals of sex and body image in pornography may
contribute to distorted expectations and perceptions of real-world sexual experiences.

Relationship Issues: Some studies suggest that frequent pornography use may be associated with negative
relationship outcomes, such as decreased relationship satisfaction or intimacy issues.

Desensitization: There are concerns that prolonged exposure to explicit content may lead to desensitization, where
individuals become less responsive to sexual stimuli over time.
Psychological Effects of Pornography
Mixed or Nuanced Effects:
Individual Differences: Responses to pornography can vary widely based on individual factors such
as age, personality, cultural background, and personal values.

Moderation: Some researchers argue that moderate and responsible consumption of pornography
is less likely to lead to negative effects compared to excessive or compulsive use.

Research Limitations and Controversies:

Causation vs. Correlation: Establishing a direct causal link between pornography consumption and
psychological effects is challenging due to ethical concerns and methodological limitations in
research.

Varied Content: Pornography is a diverse category, with content ranging from consensual and
ethical to explicit and potentially harmful. Generalizations about its effects may not apply uniformly.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL
IMPLICATIONS
The growing awareness of pornography use among
high school teens, through school and community-
based individual and group counseling sessions.
Researching topics related to pornography use
among teens revealed a large field of studies on the
impact of brain development and its link to an
increased dissatisfaction in intimate relationships and
an increase in sexually aggressive behaviors.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL
IMPLICATIONS
Did you know that 1 in 3 videos contain depictions of sexual violence and
aggression? This sets a precedent of what women are expected and
supposed to do during sex. Implementing that aggravated assault is a turn-
on and a must during sexual intimacy.

It dehumanizes women into being sexual servants in the bedroom and is

seen as just another moving part. According to Fight the New Drug, porn
consumers are less likely to take sexual assault seriously and are more likely
to entertain or even exercise it.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL
IMPLICATIONS
Creating a culture that openly accepts the production of child porn, violent
porn, and even the fetishization of rape. It is shifting our values into a violent
sexual society. Mass consumption of porn sets a standard that this is the
norm.

The bare minimum is creating a safe and coessential space for sex between
yourself and your partner. Remember a woman doesn’t owe you anything
and just because she said yes to one thing doesn’t mean you have a
greenlight in other sexual acts.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL
IMPLICATIONS
Before you open Pornhub or any other major platform that produces
pornography, remember its effects on the women around you.

Remember the burden it puts on women and the violence against them.
Remember that women are not objects,

They are human beings, with feelings and desires that don’t revolve around
the male ideology of sex.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS
What are ethical and legal consideration?
Legal standards are based on written law, while ethical standards
are based on human rights and wrongs. Something can be legal
but not ethical. Legal standards are written by government
officials, while ethical standards are written by societal norms.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS
RA 9775 - otherwise known as the Anti-Child Pornography Act of
2009. AN ACT DEFINING THE CRIME OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY,
PRESCRIBING PENALTIES THEREFOR AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES
"Child" refers to a person below eighteen (18) years of age or over
but is unable to fully take care of, or protect, himself/herself from
abuse, neglect, cruelty, exploitation or discrimination because of a
physical or mental disability or condition.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS
The 6 Ethical Considerations includes:
1. Voluntary Participation - Any participation in a research study
is completely voluntary. You are free to decline to participate
for any reason. You may also stop participating at any time or
refuse to answer any individual questions. Even after you sign
the consent form, you can stop.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS
2. Informed Consent - Informed consent is one of the founding
principles of research ethics. Its intent is that human participants can
enter research freely (voluntarily) with full information about what it
means for them to take part, and that they give consent before they
enter the research.
3. Anonymity - A condition in which the identity of individual subjects
is not known to researchers. To limit or control how personal data is
collected and stored, as well as who can access and use it.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS
4. Confidentiality - Confidentiality means that you know who the
participants are, but you remove all identifying information from your
report. All participants have a right to privacy, so you should protect
their personal data for as long as you store or use it.
5. Only assess relevant components - Only assess relevant
components: This means you should only assess those components
that are of relevance to the research being conducted.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL
CONSIDERATIONS
6. No to Harm - The ethical principle of nonmaleficence requires that
the health care provider not intentionally and maliciously cause harm
or injury to patients under his or her care.
what is the risk of pornography in
terms of physical health
Engaging in excessive pornography consumption may
contribute to physical health risks such as disrupted
sleep patterns, fatigue, and potential eye strain.
However, it's important to note that individual
experiences can vary, and moderation is key. If you have
concerns, consulting with a healthcare professional is
advisable.
What is the risk of pornography
in terms of Mental health
Excessive consumption of pornography has been linked to potential
negative effects on mental health. It may impact relationships by
creating unrealistic expectations and altering perceptions of
intimacy. Some individuals may experience issues with body image
and self-esteem due to comparisons with unrealistic portrayals.
However, it's important to note that people's reactions vary, and
not everyone faces these concerns. If you have specific worries or
questions, seeking guidance from a mental health professional can
provide personalized support and advice.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND
INTERVENTIONS

Watching porn is a perfectly natural part of a healthy sex life and

needn’t be associated with feelings of guilt or shame. However, if you
find that your viewing habits are becoming excessive this could indicate
that you’ve developed a porn addiction.
