c. Construct a model of solar system; and
d. Characterize the planets using a mini pageant.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preliminaries

1. PRAYER
Class let us all stand and feel the
presence of our God.

Precious, please lead the prayer. Lord, teach us to be a child to everybody.

In this bright world let us stay to see a soul
of beauty whenever it is a rainy day or
maybe a sunny day. guide us Lord in
spending the time wisely. Teach us Lord
on how to love our parents always, respect
our teachers and classmates and to be
good the remaining days. Amen.

2. GREETINGS
Good morning class. Good morning, sir!

3. CLASSROOM SET-UP
Before you take your sit, please pick those (students will pick those scattered pieces
scattered pieces of plastic and paper of plastic and paper under their chair)
under your chair.

You may now take your seat!

Marielle, who’s absent today? None sir!

That is good to hear!

4. REVIEW
Last meeting, we have discussed about
stars.
King, what is star? Stars are heavenly bodies that is made up
of hydrogen and helium atoms. It gives
light and strong gravitational force to
other heavenly bodies.
Very good!

The nearest star in our planet is the Sun.

it gives energy to the plants to sustain life
on Earth.

5. MOTIVATION
Before we start our lesson. I will call 11 (each pupil will pick a letter on the box)
pupils to pick letters on the box.

(name 11 pupils)

Now, arrange the following letter to form

a word. I will give 2 minutes to arrange
the letters. Your 2 minutes starts now.

(after 2 minutes) “S O L A R S Y S T E M”

Nicole, what is the arranged word? Solar System, sir!

Very good!

B. Lesson Proper

1. PRESENTATION

Class, kindly read! Solar System.

2. DISCUSSION

Princess, what is solar system? The Solar System is sun and everything
that orbits around it. It includes the
planets and their moons as well as
numerous asteroids and comets. These
objects are all held in orbit around the sun
by the sun’s strong gravity.
Very good!

The Solar System is where our eight

planets located. It is also called as Sun’s
Family.

We will find why it is called as Sun’s

Family as we go along with our discussion.

(The teacher will post a blank black paper

on the board)

Let’s assume that this is our Solar System.

Let us discuss first. The Sun

sun?
Its temperature is 15, 000, 000 °C at the
center and 5, 000 °C at the surface. The
sun is just a middle-sized yellow star
however; it is the largest object in our
solar system.

Very good!

The Sun is a major source of energy. The

sun rotates on its own. Its period of rotation
is equal to 25 Earth days.

This is how our Sun looks like.

The Sun is the center of our solar system.
But we will put the sun in the left corner of
our solar system model.

Denisah, can you please put the Sun on

the left part of our model. (the pupil will put the Sun on the left
corner of the model)

Very good!

After having the Sun as center of the solar

system. Let’s discuss the other members of
the solar system.

Neureby, what is a planet?

Planets are celestial body moving in an
Excellent! elliptical orbit around the star.

Planets are celestial bodies distinguished

from the fixed stars by having an apparent
motion of its own (including the moon and
sun).

The solar system has two types. Terrestrial

or rocky planets and gas giant planets.
Terrestrial planets are made of solids like
rocks and metal. While, gas giant planets are
made of primarily of gas, mostly hydrogen.

The first terrestrial planet is Mercury.

Rosmin, what is the characteristics of the
planet Mercury?
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It
is one of the hottest planets. It also
considered as the second smallest planet.
Mercury is less than half the size of Earth.
Its gravity is less than half as strong as
Earth’s.

Very good! The temperature ranges from 426°C

during the day to 170°C at night. It has no

other parts are cold.

This is the picture of Mercury.

Riza, please place Mercury on our model.

(the pupil will put Mercury on the model)

Excellent!

The second planet in our solar system is

Venus.
Derick, what is the characteristics of
Venus?

It is the brightest object in the sky aside

from sun and moon. It is often called the
morning star when it is in the west at
sunset.

Very good! It is considered as the twin planet of Earth

due to its size and mass similar to the

The thick atmosphere causes extreme

Angelica, put Venus on our model.

(the pupil will put Venus on the model)

Excellent!

Let’s have the third planet on our solar

system. The Earth.

This is the Earth.

Althea, what is the characteristics of the
planet Earth?

Earth is the third planet from the sun. it is

Our fourth planet is Mars.

This is how Mars looks like.

Airek, what is the characteristics of the
planet Mars?

Mars is known as the red planet. The

surface of it appears reddish-yellow

Now, let’s have the first gas giant planet.

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar
system.

Rizza, please put Jupiter on our model

(the pupil will put Jupiter on the model)

Very good!

Let’s have the 6th planet.

Class, what is the 6th planet?

Very good!

Saturn, sir!

Rosmin, what is the characteristics of the

planet Saturn?

Excellent! Saturn is the second biggest planet but has

the lowest density. It has a complex ring
system held in place by its gravitational
pull. Saturn ha 31 moons and the largest is
Titan.

This is an image of Saturn.

Saturn has a complex ring system and its
largest moon is called titan.

Ashelea, please put Saturn in our model.

The 7th planet on the solar system is called
Uranus.

Jaymar, what is the characteristics of the

planet Uranus?

The 8th planet in our solar system is

Neptune.

Mark John Paul, what is the

characteristics of Neptune?

Excellent!

Neptune is the fourth largest planet. It has

an elliptical orbit. It has a dark-colored
storm called the Great Dark Spot.
Neptune has 11 moons and the largest is
the Triton.

This is an image of Neptune.

Neptune has a giant storm and it is also
the farthest planet.

Eugene, can you please put Neptune in our

model.

Very good! (the pupil will put Neptune in the model)

We created a model of a Solar System.

3. APPLICATION

To test whether you understand our

discussions for today. I will group you into
two. The right will be the first group and the
left side will be the second group.

Are you ready to play a game? We are

going to play a game entitled
“Mr. and Ms. Planet 2019”

You are going to pick 2 planets on the

bowl.

1st Group

Mercury and Venus

2nd Group

Earth and Mars

You are going to do a mini pageant
representing the different planets, you are
going to describe the planet and tell
something about its other name or
characteristics.

Here are the criteria for today’s activity.

Before you start, Rizza what are the things to

consider in doing group activity?

Very good!

I will give you 3 minutes to do your work.

You may start now!

In doing a group activity everybody should
(afterb3 minutes) participate and the group should have
discipline in doing the activity.
We are going to start our pageant.

Let us witness our candidates.

I prepared an individual activity to test

whether you understand our discussion.

(the teacher will give an activity sheets)

All you have to do is to answer the following

questions. Identify the member of the Solar
System being described.

________1. It is the fourth largest planet. It

has an elliptical orbit. It revolves outside the
orbit of Uranus and most of its orbit moves
outside the elliptical path of Pluto.
________2. It is the only planet where life
is known to exist.
________3. It is a huge ball of very hot
gasses. It is the center of the Solar System.
________4. It has at least 21 moons and the
largest is Titania.
________5. It is known as the red planet.

I will give you 5 minutes to finish your

activity.

(after 5 minutes)

Okay class are you done?

You may now pass your activity sheets

V. ASSIGNMENTS

For your assignment, I want you to bring

your art materials tomorrow. You will use
that in creating a poster of the Solar System.

Do you understand class?

Let’s call it a day, Goodbye class!

Yes, sir!

Goodbye, sir!
