1. What is the longest leg in a right triangle? ________ 2. a
2. What is the opposite side of ∠ A ? _______________ 3. b
3. What is the adjacent side of ∠ A ? _____________ 4. b
5. a
4. What is the opposite side of ∠ C ? _______________
5. What is the adjacent side of ∠ C ? _____________

Abstraction
(The teacher will discuss the following below.) (The students will listen.)

The Six Trigonometric Ratios

 Trigonometric Ratios are defined as the values of all the

trigonometric functions based on the value of the ratio of
sides in a right-angled triangle. The ratios of sides of a right-
angled triangle with respect to any of its acute angles are
known as the trigonometric ratios of that particular angle.

Primary Trigonometric Ratios

cosine of ∠A = cos A =

opposite
tangent of ∠A = tan A=

SOH-CAH-TOA Is a mnemonic used for remembering the

equations.
Example 1:

Refer to ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 below. Find the trigonometric function

values of ∠𝐴.

Note: Item 1 in the application part will be given

for the students to answer.

Secondary Trigonometric Ratios (Reciprocal of the Primary

Trigonometric Ratios)

Example 2:

Consider the triangle BCA below. Find the values of sine, cosine,
and tangent of angle A, and then use those to get the values of
secant, cosecant, and cotangent of the same angle.

Since we know that cosecant is the reciprocal of sine, secant is the

reciprocal of cosine, and cotangent is the reciprocal of tangent, then their
values are shown below.

Note: Item 2 in the application part will be given ➢ None, ma’am.

Assignment Formula:

Direction: In a ½ crosswise, answer the following questions. opposite

sin 𝜃 =
ℎypotenuse
Problem: To be safe, a 20 ft-ladder should not be inclined in an
angle more than 70 with the ground. Suppose the ladder leans adjacent
cos 𝜃 =
against the wall of a house ad makes a 70-degree angle with ℎypotenuse
the ground, find the a) distance b from the base of the house to
the foot of the ladder, b) height a reached by the ladder.
Solution:
b
a. cos 70° =
20
cos 70° (20) = b
0.342020 (20) =b
6.84 = b

a
b. sin 70° =

sin 70° (20) = a
0.939693 (20) = a
18.79 =a

The distance b from the base of the

ladder is 6.84 ft. The height a
reached by the ladder is 18. 79 ft.
