Stress at Polytechnique Montreal
Vallé
02
To begin with, university students are very stressed. A study conducted by Student Voice find
revealed (wc) out that more than half of the students surveyed have had had suffered (T7)
chronic stress over the past year. This number has been increasing, with a big jump during the
pandemic. It seems like there is a real issue of chronic stress among students that needs to be
addressed.
The survey was conducted Friday at the school Polytechnique Montreal, an engineering
school. The topic subject was stress among young students of 1 year. The expected result was
that the people surveyed would be very stressed, maybe even more than in the study of the
introductory paragraph, because Polytechnique is a very difficult school and because the
survey was done at the end of the semester before the exams.
Overall, the students surveyed were very stressed now because it was the end of the semester.
Indeed, a lot of the people surveyed, 7 of 11 person, said that it was the time of the year
where they were more the most stressed. However, when they were asked if this stress was a
chronic stress, which is “a consistent sense of feeling pressured or overwhelmed over a long
period of time” according to Yale Medicine, all the people who claimed to be stressed said
that it was not at all the case. Also, when asking asked what the root cause of their stress is
was, in their life lives, 91% of the people claimed that it was something related to school. In
these responses, the one that came 3 times is the new aspect of now going to college.
These results were not so different from the initial hypothesis. We saw that the end of the
semester was a struggle for the people surveyed, and that their stress in was mainly caused by
school. However, the survey does not suggest a chronic stress among most of the students.
This can be explained by the fact that chronic stress may have a bad reputation and a taboo
surrounding it. Since the people were surveyed directly at school and sometimes in front of
other people, it can have some effect on people. Moreover, maybe some answers would have
been better if the survey was had been (T7) conducted in a safer space, which is in relation
Another survey mistake was that the survey was only on 11 people only 11 people answered
the survey (wo), which is not a lot of people. Diversity is also lacking. The survey was on 11
students of the same program in Polytechnique. If other people of other programs were
surveyed too, maybe the answers would have been different. Finally, the date of the survey

Writing Checklist
Before writing the final draft of your survey report, complete the following checklist to help you
edit out as many errors as possible.
Writing Checklist
1. I used a dictionary to verify correct spelling.
9. I have used the passive verb form (passive voice) when reporting survey results
(see Brass Ring 2, pages 227 and 228).
11. I have met the ultimate goal of my report, which is to inform the reader about
the results of a survey that I wrote and conducted.
When you have finished writing and revising, write a short paragraph on your use of revision
strategies. More specifically, reread your text and identify two strategies you used to help you
write and two examples to show how you used those strategies. Then reflect on how using these
revision strategies helped you improve your text.
In this part of the assignment, your tutor will evaluate your use of proper revision strategies, but
will not correct your grammar, spelling or vocabulary.
Revision Strategies
To have a proper revision, I start by reading another time my text while paying attention to
punctuation. I make sure every sentence starts with a capitalize word and ends with a dot. I
also check my commas and the tense of my verbs, to make sure my sentences are correctly
structured.
Finally, I read another time my text. This time, I pay attention to the word I might not know the
spelling and to the plurals.
The student uses varied sentence structure, correct grammar, spelling, YOU REVEALED YOUR RESULTS IN
capitalization and punctuation. A CLEAR AND LOGICAL MANNER. I
