III. ESSAY : Explain each statement briefly.

The main theme of Peter Pan is the conflict between wanting to remain a child but
knowing that one has to become an adult. If you are in the feet of Peter Pan, would
you rather do the same? Why or why not?

If given a chance, I would rather not to the same. Because we can’t stop growing or
becoming old. Yes some people may think and already experienced that adultery is hard
as this is the time when you have your obligations and responsibilities, being independent
with no one to lean on. For me, that’s the best thing that would happen once I grow up. I
would learn how to be independent be on my own and explore things by myself. I think
I’ll enjoy every single bit of growing up so I’d rather become old that be a child forever
because there’s no fun in that.

LESSON 7: STORIES IN “VERSES” OLD POSSUM’S BOOK OF PRACTICAL

CATS )

Questions to ponder.

1. For you, how significant is light poetry in children’s cognitive development?

In terms of cognitive development, children still has a long way to go as they are still
learning. And it’s knot going to be easy for them to understand a poem even if it’s just
easy but with proper guidance of their teacher they can have an idea and develop their
capabilities in understanding the meaning behind a certain poems.

2. What do you think is T.S. Elliot’s purpose of writing Old Possum’s Book of Practical
Cats?
In order to give entertainment to his companions, T.S. Elliot wrote the Old Possum’s
Book of Practical Cats. And I also believe that his idea on writing such book is to bring
amusement to the young readers, to give them an idea that animals such as cats and dogs
can be their buddy and companion as they are kind and gentle.

3. In your own words how will you describe cats?

Cats, I’ve never have a pet cat before but I had a dog. For me cats are undeniably cute
and fluffy. I saw them a lot on TV and they easily get my attention focus to them just by
trying to catch a toy mouse or playing with their peers. The way they say “meow” when
calling their owner or trying to act cute for them to give treats is such a healing when you
have a stressful day. They can make you happy just by sitting in your lap and wagging
their tail as they are so happy you’re petting them. Cats are incredible.
4. What do you think is the reason why Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats became
successful including the musical associated with it?

The old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats shows an amusing side and characteristics of
cats that made it entertaining and fun. And as the target audience are young children,
they would love to read it because of the cats and the way the sequence of the story was
made. And in terms of the musical it shows classical form that the viewers may enjoy.

5. If you will be writing a light poetry, in what form would it be?Nonsensical, Humorous,
or Serious? Why?

If I would be writing a light poetry, I would write it in the form of gratitude and about
memories. Because I’m a sentimental person, I give importance about almost everything
and every little thing either that material or a person that came into my life teach me a
lesson or becoming my friends, I’ll treasure that forever and I want to write poems about
that just like walking down my memory lane
