Q1 The electric field components in Fig. are EX = α x1/2, Ey = E z = 0 in which alpha = 800 N / Cm 2 . Calculate (i) the flux
through the cube and (ii) the charge within the cube. Assume that α = 0.1 m.

Q2 An electric field is uniform, and in the positive x direction for positive x and uniform with the same magnitude in the
negative x direction for negative x. It is given that and

E =200 i N C - 1 for x > 0

E = -200 i NC- 1 for x < 0

A right circular cylinder of length 20 cm and radius 5 cm has its centre at the
origin and its axis along the x-axis so that one face is at x = 10 cm and the
other is at x = - 10 cm.

(i) What is the net outward flux through each flat face?

(ii) What is the flux through the side of the cylinder?

(iii) What is the net outward flux through the cylinder?

(iv) What is the net charge inside the cylinder?

Q3 S1 and S₂ are two concentric spheres enclosing charges Q and 2Q respectively as shown in Fig.

(i) What is the ratio of the electric flux through S1 and S2?.

(ii) How will the electric flux through the sphere S1 change, if a medium of dielectric constant k is introduced in the space
inside S1 in place of air?

(iii) How will the electric flux through sphere S1 change, if a medium of dielectric constant k is
introduced in the space inside S2 in place of air?

Calculate the flux of this field through a square surface of area 10 cm 2 when.

(i) its plane is parallel to the y-z plane, and

Q5 Given a uniform electric field E =5*103 I NC-1, find the flux of this field through a square of 10 cm on a side whose plane is
parallel to the Y-Z plane. What would be the flux through the same square if the plane makes a 30° angle with the X-axis?

Q6 6. A spherical Gaussian surface encloses a charge of 8.85 * 10-8 C.

(i) Calculate the electric flux passing through the surface.

Q7 A hollow cylindrical box of length 1 m and area of cross-section 25 cm2 is placed


in a three-dimensional coordinate system as shown in Fig. The electric field in the

Find

Find the charge contained in the cubical volume bounded by the surfaces.

(ii) net charge enclosed within the cube.
