Most of us would have been asked this question by our parents when we return from
school, “What did you learn today?” The answer may vary depending on many factors:
the student’s interest, the teachers at school, the activities they take part in, the peers
they hang out with and so on. So is there a secret formula to make the best of our
learning?

As IB students, you would have all heard the term ‘lifelong learners’. Even ancient
educational wisdom of India acknowledges the fact that learning is lifelong and never
confined to school or to one particular stage of one’s life. There is a Sanskrit shloka:

that roughly translates to learning is:

One fourth from the teacher, one fourth from own intelligence,
One fourth from classmates, and one fourth only with time.

How does this become a reality for learners? It goes without saying that learning from
teachers is a ubiquitous phenomenon and one should make the best use of the teacher
resource available at your school. The teacher can be likened to a gardener who tends to
the plant providing the right environment for it to grow. But there are other factors too.

You learn from your classmates who support you, challenge you and even inspire you to
learn – not only about subjects, but about life itself. The various activities at school-
assemblies, competitions, MUNs, the recently concluded Annual Day – all were events
where you worked together, inquiring, planning, sharing opinions and you were
unconsciously honing valuable life skills. The school is a fertile ground for you to thrive
making the best use of human and physical resources available. But is that all?

At the centre is YOU- the student. It all depends on you. Besides mentoring or coaching,
one needs to invest time and effort into nurturing one’s own interests, talents and
capabilities. We are all unique in our own ways and have some special talent which we
need to foster. And the best time for you to focus on developing your skills is when you
are young – with vibrant minds and bursting with energy.

The last one according to the shloka is that we learn with time. It is said that experience
is the greatest teacher. We gather insights through experience and our life view matures
and changes making time the greatest teacher. We gather knowledge when young and
wisdom with time. Thus learning continues lifelong – with guidance, with self study, from
friends and with time.

Page 5
On the 10th of November, a heartwarming Support Staff
Appreciation Day unfolded at our school, dedicated to
acknowledging the invaluable contributions of our often unsung
heroes. The event commenced with an energetic dance
performance by enthusiastic 10th and 11th graders, setting the
stage for a day full of gratitude and celebration.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) children, with their angelic

voices, added a sweet melody to the atmosphere with soulful
songs dedicated to the support staff. Their innocence and
sincerity resonated, creating a touching connection between
the children and the honored guests.

The 11th graders took the lead in organizing engaging activities

that not only showcased their creativity but also provided
moments of joy and laughter for the support staff. A blindfolded
obstacle course and a spirited lemon and spoon race were
among the highlights, fostering camaraderie and bonding.

As a token of appreciation, each member of the support staff

received a thoughtful goodie bag at the culmination of the
event. Packed with heartfelt notes, small treats, and tokens of
appreciation, these bags were a symbolic gesture of gratitude
for the tireless efforts and dedication exhibited by the support
staff throughout the school year.

This Support Staff Appreciation Day not only recognized the

essential role played by the support staff but also reinforced
the sense of community within the school, leaving an indelible
mark on the hearts of both the givers and the recipients of
appreciation.

GRADE 10 ASSEMBLY
~25TH NOVEMBER~

Page 10
~Highlights~

Page 11
On November 25th, our 10th-grade students organized a poignant
assembly dedicated to addressing the critical issue of Elimination of
Violence Against Women. The focal point of this impactful event was an
emotionally charged play that skillfully portrayed various instances of
women facing violation and harassment- specifically eve-teasing and
dowry. The students showcased remarkable maturity, tackling sensitive
topics with grace, while the strategic use of music and lighting
heightened the emotional impact.

The play unfolded through a series of scenes, each depicting different

forms of violence against women. The carefully chosen music served as
a powerful complement, seamlessly integrating with the narrative to
evoke a strong emotional response from the audience. The lighting,
thoughtfully employed to shift between moods, added depth to the
performance.

Beyond the artistic elements, the assembly included informative

segments, sharing statistics, resources, and support networks for those
affected by violence. This multifaceted approach aimed not only to
raise awareness but also to empower the audience with knowledge and
tools for combating violence.

Post-performance discussions created a safe space for students and

teachers to engage in meaningful conversations, fostering a sense of
collective responsibility and empathy. As the applause echoed through
the auditorium, it was evident that the 10th-grade students had
successfully sparked conversations, promoted awareness, and inspired
a commitment to eliminating violence against women. Their assembly
stands as a testament to the power of the younger generation to drive
positive change and create a safer, more empathetic world.

UK UNIVERSITY FAIR
~27TH NOVEMBER~

Page 13
On the vibrant and enlightening day of November 27th, our
school hosted a transformative University Fair that opened
doors to a world of academic possibilities for students in
grades 9-12. The event was marked by the participation of
esteemed universities from the United Kingdom, converging on
our campus to offer a comprehensive insight into the diverse
higher education opportunities across the pond.

The fair served as a beacon for aspiring minds, guiding them

through the maze of potential academic paths. Representatives
from renowned UK universities engaged with our students,
providing invaluable information about courses, scholarships,
and the unique aspects of studying in the UK. From bustling
booths adorned with university paraphernalia to interactive
presentations, the fair was a dynamic platform that fostered an
atmosphere of curiosity and ambition.

Students eagerly explored their options, seeking guidance on

everything from admission requirements to campus life. The
fair was not just an information hub; it was a bridge connecting
dreams to reality. The universities' representatives, armed with
expertise and enthusiasm, addressed queries, inspired
confidence, and left an indelible mark on the aspirations of our
students.

As the sun set on this day of academic exploration, students

departed with a newfound clarity about their future academic
endeavors. The University Fair on November 27th became a
pivotal moment in the educational journey of our students,
fostering a spirit of global awareness and opening doors to a
world of higher education possibilities in the United Kingdom.

ANNUAL DAY
~2ND DECEMBER~

Page 15
~Highlights~

Page 16
On December 2nd, our school's annual day unfolded as a
mesmerizing tapestry of creativity, resilience, and unity. The
highlight of the event was a spectacular mega play that
seamlessly intertwined elements from Jumanji, Avatar, the
future world of AI, and the past tribal realms. This unique
concoction transported the audience through time and
space, weaving an enchanting narrative.

The storyline revolved around four central characters—Alan,

Prithvi, Disha, and Samantha—who embarked on an
extraordinary adventure after rolling the Jumanji board.
Unpredictable weather threw a curveball, causing only the
first act to be performed on the planned stage while the rest
were to be performed on an alternative one. However, the
spirit of our students shone through as they adapted to the
unforeseen circumstances. Undeterred, the remainder of the
play unfolded indoors in our multi-purpose hall, serving as a
testament to the indomitable perseverance and unity of our
school community.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the play

continued to captivate the audience with its vibrant dance
sequences, melodious songs, and a narrative that
seamlessly blended various genres. The resilience exhibited
by our students mirrored the ethos of our institution,
highlighting the ability to overcome obstacles and celebrate
the spirit of togetherness. The annual day, with its innovative
performance and the determination of the participants, will
be etched in our memories as a testament to the strength
and creativity within our school community.

Pourtant, quand je me suis levé,
cela ne pouvait pas durer.

La Nouvelle
Laissez-moi vous raconter l’histoire d'un
poulet. Ses amis l’appellent Petit Poulet. Petit

“Entrez ! Entrez ! » dit Gérard. « Il y a assez de
place pour tout le monde ! Le ciel ne nous
tombera pas dessus ici. Nous sommes en
sécurité.” Le lendemain matin, Petit Poulet et
ses amis ont disparu. La grotte est vide. Mais
Gérard le Renard est très content. Il a un
ventre très gros et très rond!

Merci!

A Call For Conservation
Greetings SNIS Odyssey readers! Ananya Sunder and Subbu S. Reddy
here, excited to share our journey as Karnataka's representatives at
the Model Conference of Parties 2023 (MCOP) in Delhi. Our goal is
simple yet crucial: assess the health of a local waterbody and be
actively involved in efforts to maintain it and conduct cleanup drives.

Waterbodies, often forgotten, are the unsung heroes of our

environment. They're life-sustaining and vital to our communities. As
leaders in our delegation, Subbu and I are eager to uncover the details
within Karnataka's lakes.

Our mission goes beyond the conference; it's about creating a culture
of conservation. Waterbodies, like lakes and rivers, are crucial for us.
We believe that by understanding their importance, we can work
together to protect these invaluable resources.

Let's talk about what each of us can do:

Be Aware: Mindful disposal of waste and avoiding the use of
harmful chemicals can prevent pollution of waterbodies.
Conserve Water: Simple practices like fixing leaks and using
water-efficient appliances contribute to preserving water
resources.
Participate in Clean-up Drives: Engaging in local initiatives to
clean up waterbodies can make a tangible difference in their
health.
Educate and Raise Awareness: Spreading the word about the
importance of waterbody conservation encourages others to join
the cause.

By taking these steps, we can all make a positive impact. Our vision is
to make a positive impact on our chosen lake, and to do our best to
be involved in restoration efforts and organise cleanup drives
ourselves. Together, let's protect these crucial resources for a
sustainable and healthier future.
