Course Feedback
In continuation of the last week this week we moved on to understanding
how different types of lighting work, why they're used in certain scenes and
situations only. Demonstrations were given for each and every lighting
technique and all technical terms were explained multiple times for our
better understanding and retention.
We had to do projects as a group and that really helped me in

understanding how i work in a group for projects that are a little more big
scale and require commitment from a lot of people.
My faults and areas i need to work more in were highlighted but I also got to
experience from various point of views, the model, the lighting direction, the
person handling the lights, the person handling the camera.
There were assignments where we had the oppurtunity to explore aswell

Critical Analysis Report
I learned the terms and names of different types of lighting which I've been
seeing on the screen, in films and videos, in magazine and newspaper
photos and advertisements.
The mini projects were a window into how to approach big projects. I learned
how to handle every aspect of the photoshoot, costuming, lighting, camera,
finding the model etc.
A major thing was managing time, how to get the props and lighting ready in
advance so not much time is wasted by the model and us is just fighting or
coordinating in the last minute.
Matchng the lighting, how to change the intensity of the lights, all these
things were learned
Assignment 1
PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY
This was a very fun and interesting assignment, multiple tools were used lie
agarbatti the phones flashlight with butter paper or fingers on top of it,the
RGB light paper covered over a torch etc. to get a visually appealing
photograph.
Highlighting the product label was hard in certain products because the
label were reflective or were egraved on the glass product. trying to figure
out multiple slutions to htese things

Assignment 2
POSITION OF LIGHT AND FEEL.
The movie I studied was Annihilation. Its a cosmic horror film. Intense lighting
was used in many scenes to give the film a subtly dramatic effect. A lot of
surreal colors in lighting were used to give the whole movie an otherworldly
feel.
In indoor scenes reflectors are used to create dimension and create more
definition on the faces of the characters. In outdoor scenes flat lighting with
soft big shadows are made using objects or one light source. There was
effort made to make the lighting as natural as possible
he focus in his shot was he 2 characters. The character
on the right is slightly obscured with A direct top lighting,
making him feel mysterious and powerful.
The character on the left is also in shadow further
creating a division between the lovers here which is a
visual representation of the actual drift between them

creates a feeling of

were tense and heavily
emotional scenes.

This creates a feeling of
mystery and around
him, even creating a
feeling of slight dread

This is the shot where the light meets the darkness. Its a
big moment in the scene. where everything feels off, The
danger can be felt in the way she feels small in
comparison to the walls of the passageway
Assignment 3
LIGHT, TECHNIQUE AND STUDY
REMBRANDT LIGHTING
The shot was taken with the model at the center and a single light source
was kept at an angle of 45 degree to her.
Rembrandt lighting is ofetn used to create a dramatic effect in paintings and
photos.
I wnated to try this lighting because its very hard to get a nice clean triangle
on someones face, i had to try with different people and adjust the light
source.

MINI PROJECT (GROUP TASK)
PART A - Recreate the painting/ scene using photography as a medium.
The painting we chose had elaborate costumes and an old man.

My contribution in the group was preparing the model into an old man. So in
order to make his wrinkles realistic I practised makeup and painting wrinkles
on my own face, and also tried a variety of tools like fevicol etc. to obtain the
desired result.
After this i helped in preparing the model, putting the outfit together and
fixing the models posture .

MINI PROJECT (GROUP TASK)
PART B - Recreate the miniature painting/ scene using photography as a

medium.
My contribution in this shoot was of putting the costumes together, dying

pieces of jewellery because many things were not available, creating the
props. After this i also directed the lighting for his shot and where the
positioning should be.
The position of the reflector and diffuser was a mutual decision by the whole
group.
I also handled the camera and tripod for the end part of the photoshoot so i
got to experience that also
