CASE 2: WORKING TOGETHER

The challenges and experiences discovered while managing a multicultural workforce at

the 1992 open of the EDSA Shangri-La Manila. An worldwide team of professionals
from over 15 nations and 50 provinces, including expatriates and locals, some of whom
were new to the industry, working at the hotel, which was the first Shangri-La in the
Philippines. Keeping this diverse workforce under control was an important challenge.

An Italian chef insulted his Filipino workers by calling them “brown monkeys” in one
notable incident. This created an argument in which the chef was reminded of the value
of cultural sensitivity and threatened with deportation. Instead of removing or deporting
him, management decided to offer him the opportunity to demonstrate his respect for
Filipinos. This particular incident became an unforgettable example in multicultural
diversity lessons. The chief of human resources discussed the problem gently,
confronting the chef while highlighting the importance of mutual respect and
understanding. Instead of terminating his work or deporting him, the hotel offered the
chef the opportunity to participate in an improvement focused on increasing cultural
knowledge and respect for Filipinos.

Overall, the content highlights the need of cultural respect and understanding in
managing diverse staff, as well as the actions that must be taken to maintain a pleasant
working environment. The importance of effectively managing staff diversity, promoting
cultural sensitivity, and proactively addressing diversity concerns in order to maintain an
inclusive and peaceful work environment. It emphasizes the importance of mutual
respect in cultural barriers and forming, providing great service in the hospitality
industry.

Why is safety and security important in all forms of transportation

Safety and security are important in all forms of transportation because they protect the
lives of passengers and drivers and minimize the risk of accidents. When people feel
safe and secure while using various transportation modes, it boosts public confidence
and trust in the transportation.
Accidents and security threats in transportation can have severe economic
consequences. They can result in property damage, medical expenses, legal costs, and
a loss of productivity. Ensuring safety and security helps to prevent accidents, injuries,
and loss of life, while also protecting against criminal activities such as theft. To prevent
accidents, we need to follow safety measures such as regular maintenance of vehicles
and proper training of drivers. Additionally, it promotes confidence and trust in the
transportation system, which is essential for its continued operation and success. All
things considered, prioritizing safety and security first in transportation is essential for
everyone’s protection and peace of mind. By employing methods, In transportation
providers can effectively convey safety and security information to passengers,
promoting awareness and preparedness for potential emergencies.
A safe and secure transportation system promotes confidence and trust among
travelers, leading to a positive experience and continued usage of the transportation
services. Safety and security are very important part in all forms of transportation to
protect individuals, prevent criminal activities, and maintain the integrity of the
transportation infrastructure. By prioritizing safety and security, transportation providers
can create a reliable and trustworthy environment for passengers and contribute to the
overall well-being of society.
What do you think the safest transportation? State your reason.
In my opinion, rail transportation especially modern passenger trains has an outstanding
safety record and is the safest form of transportation. Trains go on specially designed
tracks, which lowers the possibility of their colliding with other cars.

Safety characteristics of rail networks include strict compliance to speed limits, signaling
methods, and automatic braking systems. It’s crucial to remember that safety might vary
based on the condition of the rail system and the use of safety measures, Railways are
often considered, trains operate on dedicated tracks, which reduces the risk of collisions
with other vehicles. Additionally, railways are subject to strict regulations and safety
standards, and train operators undergo training to ensure safe operation. The design
and construction of trains and railway infrastructure prioritize safety, with features such
as automatic braking systems and protective barriers at crossings. Overall, these
factors contribute to the perception of railways as a safe mode of transportation.

While no mode of transportation is entirely risk-free, railways consistently rank among

the safest options available. Their reliability, efficiency, and strong safety record make
them an attractive choice for both commuters and freight operators. By continuing to
invest in infrastructure improvements, technology upgrades, and stringent safety
regulations, railways can further reinforce their position as a safe and sustainable mode
of transportation for the future. Railways emerge as the safest transportation option due
to their dedicated infrastructure, rules and regulations, limited human error impact,
advanced safety features, and resilience to external factors. As society continues to
prioritize safety in transportation, railways remain a beacon of reliability and security in
the realm of modern mobility.
Enumerate the negative impacts of Transportation in the Environment?
Transportation, encompassing various modes such as cars, planes, and ships, exerts a
significant negative impact on the environment. The combustion of fossil fuels in
vehicles emits toxic pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to air pollution that
adversely affects human health and ecosystems. Furthermore, transportation is a
leading contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide, which is a
primary driver of global warming and climate change. The accumulation of greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere intensifies the greenhouse effect, resulting in rising global
temperatures, melting ice caps, and sea-level rise.
In addition to air pollution, transportation activities also generate noise pollution, causing
stress, hearing loss, and sleep disturbances among individuals residing in urban areas
near major transit routes. The construction and expansion of transportation
infrastructure, such as roads, highways, and airports, often lead to habitat destruction,
deforestation, and land degradation. This habitat loss disrupts ecosystems, fragments
habitats, and poses threats to biodiversity and wildlife.
Roads and highways can transport pollutants like oil, heavy metals, and road salts into
rivers and marine ecosystems, contaminating freshwater sources and endangering
aquatic life. This pollution not only harms the environment but also poses risks to
human health through the consumption of contaminated water and seafood.

Site or Write at least 2 sustainable practices to Eliminate or reduce pollution

cause by transportation
Promotion of Electric Vehicles (EVs): A pivotal approach to curbing transportation
emissions lies in championing electric vehicles (EVs). Unlike their conventional
counterparts dependent on fossil fuels, EVs harness electricity, sourced from renewable
energies like solar, wind, and hydropower. This shift promises a marked reduction in
greenhouse gas emissions, curbing air pollution, and diminishing our dependency on
depleting fossil fuel reserves. Promotion of Sustainable Urban Mobility Solutions:
Beyond EVs, sustainable urban mobility solutions present compelling alternatives to
individual car ownership, slashing traffic congestion, air pollution, and carbon footprints
sustainable transportation practices holds the key to mitigating the detrimental
environmental impacts of transportation
