Lesson Plan

Grade: II (Mathematics)

Topic: Revision of counting numbers 1 to 100 and representing 2-digit numbers using different tools.

Expected Learning Objective: Students will be able to review numbers using different tools for
Counting (One- and Two-Digit Numbers)

Resources Needed: Number cards, Abacus tool, straws, ice cream sticks, cotton, stars,

Lesson Activities:

Time-45 Introductory activity (Pre-Lesson):

The students along with the teacher will play a fun and interactive game with abacus
tool.

The teacher will bring the abacus tool to the classroom and will discuss the
following:

Let’s observe the tool (abacus)

 What do you see? (Beads on a spike)

10minutes  Can you count the beads?

 From the right side how many beads are there?

 Can they be written as numbers? (yes)

 These numbers are written in HTO form and represented on abacus tool.

While the students are giving answer to the questions the teacher will write them on
the white board. After that the teacher will inform the students that what they are
discussing has to do with the mathematical term "Representation of numbers on
abacus".

Main Activity (During


Lesson): Students in group
will play a fun and
interactive game to learn the
counting of 3-digit
numbers on abacus. Teacher
will distribute chits of 1 - digit number inside the box. She
will ask the group to pick 3 chits from the box. Students will frame the smallest 3-
digit numbers and will make abacus with the help of ice-cream sticks and stars/
cotton balls/ shape cut-outs, etc. Students will show their numbers and will discuss
in front of the class.

Plenary (Post Lesson):

Teacher will check each activity and will discuss further 3-digit numbers.

Copywork: Students will be making abacus on a A4 size flash card.

 The students will be in pair and share their answers in the class after the presentation of
different groups.
