Definition of Terms

important terms, acronyms, or jargons used in a research study TWO TYPES OF DEFINITIONS: • TECHNICAL DEFINITION - universal meaning of a term - definition comes from different reference materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, books, journals, or through the web TWO TYPES OF DEFINITIONS: • OPERATIONAL DEFINITION - how the term is applied or used in the research - meaning is formulated by the researchers - “As used in this study” GUIDELINES IN DEFINING TERMS: 1. Define only the terms that have special or unique meanings. 2. What to define: -Important words in the title -Technical terms -Words for treatments and measurement GUIDELINES IN DEFINING TERMS: 3. Define terms technically, operationally, or both. 4. If technical definition is used, acknowledge the source. 5. If there are uncommon acronyms, include them, spell, and give meaning. 6. Definition should be short, clear, and unambiguous Definition of Terms
The following terms are further defined either operationally or conceptually:
Comprehension. The ability to understand completely and be familiar with a
situation, fact, text, or message. (Cambridge Dictionary, 2019) Technical definition
Comprehension Level. Levels of understanding in reading comprehension: the
literal, inferential, and evaluative. Operational definition
Instructional Leadership. As defined by de Lima (2008), the ability to involve
colleagues collaboratively in mutual learning and development, with the main purpose of improving teaching and learning.
