About SJVN Limited


• SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna, Category-I and Schedule –‘A’ CPSE under administrative control of Ministry of
Power, Govt. of India, was incorporated on May 24, 1988 as a joint venture of the Government of India (GOI)
and the Government of Himachal Pradesh (GOHP).
• SJVN is now a listed Company having shareholders pattern of 59.92 % with Govt. of India, 26.85% with Govt.
of Himachal Pradesh and rest of 13.23 % with Public.
• The present paid up capital and authorized capital of SJVN is Rs. 3,929.80 Crore and Rs. 7,000 Crore
respectively. The Net Worth as on 31.03.2022 is Rs.13128.61 Crore.
• Beginning with a single project and single State operation (i.e. India’s largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro
Power Station in Himachal Pradesh), the Company has commissioned eight projects totaling 2091.5 MW of
installed capacity and 86 km 400 KV Transmission Line.
• Apart from India, SJVN also has under-construction hydroelectric projects in Nepal and Bhutan.
• SJVN is presently implementing or operating power projects in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar,
Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Odisha, Mizoram and
Madhya Pradesh in India besides neighbouring countries of Nepal and Bhutan.
Portfolio of Company
SJVN aims to be a 5000 MW company by 2023, 25000 MW company by 2030 and 50000 MW company by 2040.
Presently, total project portfolio of SJVN is 45,409 MW, out of which 2091.5 MW is under operation, 4438 MW is under
Construction, 20992 MW is under Pre-construction and S&I stage. Capacity of 5097 MW identified by MoP, GoI in
Dibang basin of Arunachal Pradesh and Pumped Storage projects (PSPs) of 12790 MW capacity are under allotment.

Projects
• Nathpa Jhakri Hydroelectric Station of 1500 MW capacity is the country’s largest hydropower plant. The run
of the river project is located on River Sutlej, a major tributary on the Indus basin, in Shimla district of Himachal
Pradesh in North India. Plant is designed to generate 6612 million units of electricity each year but quality
management at the plant has enabled generation to exceed yearly targets. A Memorandum of Understanding
for execution of the Nathpa Jhakri project was signed between Government of India and Government of
Himachal Pradesh in July, 1991. Project has been financed on a 50:50 debt equity ratio basis. Project had the
backing of World Bank. The project was completed at a cost of Rs. 8187 Crore. Project commissioned in May,
2004 and dedicated to the nation by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sh. Manmohan Singh on May 28, 2005.
Power allocation from plant to the Northern states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir,
Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the cities of Delhi and Chandigarh has enabled the grid to
overcome power shortages in the region.
• Rampur Hydro Power Station of 412 MW installed capacity is located on River Satluj, a major tributary of
Indus basin, in Shimla and Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh in North India. Rampur HPS is designed to
generate 1878 million units of electricity each year. The plant is designed in tandem with run of the river plant
Nathpa Jhakri (1500 MW) . A Memorandum of Understanding for execution of Rampur Project was signed
between Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh on October, 2004.
• The Khirvire Wind Power Project of 47.6 MW capacity is located in Khirvire/Kombhalane villages, Taluka-
Akole, District - Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. The project comprises of 56 Wind Electric Generators (WEGs) of
850kW capacity each. The whole project stands commissioned on 20.05.2014.
• SJVN has commissioned 5.6 MW Solar Plant at Charanka Solar Park, Gujarat on 31.03.2017. The project has
been conceived and developed under REC Mechanism. The PPA for brown power has been signed with GUVNL
for a period of 25 years w.e.f. 31.03.2017. The green component of power (i.e. RECs) are being traded at power
exchange.
• Cross-Border Transmission Company Ltd. (CPTC) - (JV of POWERGRID, SJVN Ltd. and IL&FS)
• The Sadla Wind Power Project with an installed capacity of 50 MW is situated in village Sadla, Taluka Muli,
District Surendranagar in the state of Gujarat. The project comprises of 25 Wind Electric Generators
• 1 MW Solar Power Plant at Wadhal and 310 KW Solar Power Plant at Surge Shaft of NJHPS have been installed
and commissioned. Both plants are grid connected.
• 75 MW Parasan Solar Power Station was allotted by Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency
(UPNEDA) in Village Parasan, Tehsil Kalpi, District Jalaun (U.P.) on 17.05.2021. PPA was signed on 16.06.2021
with UPPCL. Plant was synchronized w.e.f. 22.10.2022 and COD achieved on 22.11.2022.
Satluj or Sutlej river rises from beyond Indian borders in the Southern slopes of the Kailash mountain near Mansarover
lake from Rakas lake, as Longcchen Khabab river ( in Tibet ). It is the largest among the five rivers of Himachal Pradesh.
It enters Himachal at Shipki ( altitude = 6,608 metres ) and flows in the South-Westerly direction through Kinnaur,
Shimla, Kullu, Solan, Mandi and Bilaspur districts. Its corse in Himachal Pradesh is 320 km.
The Indus Water Treaty (IWT) is a water-distribution treaty between India and Pakistan, arranged and negotiated by
the World Bank, to use the water available in the Indus River and its tributaries. It was signed in Karachi on 19
September 1960 by then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and then Pakistani president Ayub Khan.
The Treaty gives control over the waters of the three "eastern rivers" — the Beas, Ravi and Sutlej with a mean annual
flow of 41 billion m3 — to India, while control over the waters of the three "western rivers" — the Indus, Chenab and
Jhelum with a mean annual flow of 99 billion m3 — to Pakistan. India has about 20% of the total water carried by the
Indus system while Pakistan has 80%.

Transmission Projects Portfolio:


SJVN commissioned 86 km long 400 kV double circuits Indo-Nepal Cross Border Power Transmission corridor between
Sursand (Indo-Nepal border) and Muzaffarpur on 19.02.2016 in JV – Cross-border Power Transmission Company
(CPTC) - with Power Grid, IL&FS Energy Development Company and Nepal Electricity Authority. The same was
dedicated to the two Nations jointly by Hon’ble Prime Ministers of India and Nepal on 20.02.2016. In addition to above,
Company is engaged in implementation of 400 kV double circuit associated transmission line of 217 km long from
Arun-3 HEP pot head yard to Bathnaha on Indo - Nepal Border in Nepal.

Joint venture
Cross Border Power Transmission Company Limited (CPTC)

A joint venture of IEDCL, Power Grid, SJVN and NEA with equity participation 38%, 26 %, 26 % and 10 % respectively
to construct and maintain 86 km long, 400 kV D/C transmission line from Sursund on Indo- Nepal border to
Muzaffarpur.

Financial Position
The total income of the Company for the FY 2021-22 was Rs. 2625.54 Crore and earned profit after Tax of Rs.977.52
Crore. SJVN has declared a total dividend of Rs. 668.07 Crore during FY 2021-22.

SJVN – A Mini Ratna Company

SJVN Limited was conferred with "Mini Ratna: Category-I" status by the Government of India in the year 2008.

SJVN – Schedule 'A' Company

Meeting the criteria laid down by the Department of Public Enterprises, SJVN on qualifying both qualitative and
quantitative parameters was upgraded as Schedule 'A' PSU in 2008.

Targets
SJVN aims to be a 5000 MW company by 2023, 25000 MW company by 2030 and 50000 MW company by 2040.

Thermal Power
After experience gained in harnessing the country’s hydropower potential, SJVN forayed into generation of thermal
power. The first project taken up for execution is the 1320 MW capacity Buxar Thermal Power Plant in Distt. Buxar,
Bihar. SJVN took over Buxar Bijlee Company Pvt. Ltd. on 04.07.2013 and name was changed to SJVN Thermal Pvt. Ltd.
(wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd.) on 17.10.2013. SJVN signed MoU with Bihar State Power Holding Company
Limited and Bihar Power Infrastructure Company on 17.01.2013 for setting up Buxar Thermal Power Plant (2X 660
MW) in village Chausa, Distt. Buxar, Bihar. SJVN took over Buxar Bijli Company Private Limited on 04.07.2013 and
changed name to SJVN Thermal Private Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd.) on 17.10.2013. Power
Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been signed with Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited for 85% share of power
generation at Bus Bar rate.

Power Trading
SJVN has been granted Category “I” License for Inter-State Trading in Electricity in whole of India by Central Electricity
Regulatory Commission vide Order dated 10th January 2022.

SJVN will now be trading electricity generated by any public & private generating entity. Company plans to develop
robust systems for Market Research, Forecasting & Management such as Load Forecasting, Load Management,
Weather-Based Load Curve Estimation, Risk Mitigation etc. By effectively implementing these systems, future demand
& supply gap can be anticipated thereafter fulfilling the requirements of the customers.

Nathpa Jhakri Dam


The Nathpa Jhakri Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Sutlej River in Himachal Pradesh, India. The primary
purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power production and it supplies a 1,500 megawatts (2,000,000 hp)
underground power station with water. Before reaching the power station, water is diverted through a 27.4
km (17 mi) headrace tunnel. Construction on the project began in 1993 and it was complete in 2004. The last
two of the 250 megawatts (340,000 hp) Francis turbine-generators went online in March 2004. It is owned
by SJVN.
Current News
SJVN RECORDED HIGHEST EVER INCOME OF RS. 3299 CRORES DURING FY 2022-23: SH. NAND LAL SHARMA, CMD,
SJVN.

Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN, informed that SJVN has recorded highest ever revenues
of Rs. 3299 crores during financial year 2022-23. The previous highest were recorded in FY 2014-15 when revenues
were Rs. 3256 crores. He further said that revenues registered a growth of 25.67% compared to last year when these
were Rs. 2626 crores. The Board also recommended dividend of Rs.1.77 per share (on face value of Rs. 10/- per share).

SJVN BAGS ANOTHER 100 MW SOLAR PROJECT IN RAJASTHAN.

Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN informed that SJVN has bagged 100 MW State Transmission
Utility (STU) Connected Solar Power Project in Rajasthan. SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) a wholly owned subsidiary
of SJVN participated in Open Competitive Tariff bidding process followed by e-Reverse Auction (e-RA) organized by
Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (RUVNL).

SJVN BAGS ANOTHER 200 MW SOLAR PROJECT, PORTFOLIO CROSSES 47000 MW

Sh. Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN today informed that SJVN has obtained 200 MW Grid
Connected Solar Power Project in Khavda Solar Park through e-Reverse auction conducted by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam
Limited (GUVNL).

Sh. Nand Lal Sharma stated that SJVN bagged the full quoted capacity of 200 MW @ Rs 2.88 per unit on Build Own
and Operate basis under Open Competitive Tariff bidding by GUVNL. This solar project shall be developed by SJVN in
Khavda Solar Park, Gujarat. The tentative cost for development of this project shall be approximately Rs 1200 Crores.
