- Steam boiler – any closed vessel in which for any purpose steam is generated
under pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, and includes any
economizer used to heat water being fed to the vessel, any superheater used
for heating surface, and any pipes and fittings connected thereto.
- Unfired pressure vessel – any type of pressure vessel that is not fired. They
are not exposed to combustion or burner fire.

3. State 2 applications of pressure vessels

- General, construction and manufacturing industry
- Compressed air receivers and domestic hot water storage tanks

4. State 5 hazardous conditions in the use of pressure vessels

- Mechanical blasts
- leakage in wall or tube
- toxic releases into the air
- cracks in wall or tube
- structural changes

5. Explain the preventive and control measures as per statutory requirements.

- Design should follow specification in code of practice
- Vessel should be equipped with safety devices such as safety valve
- Regular maintenance for vessel and its accessories
- Scheduled inspection of pressure vessel
- Controls on maintenance and repair works
- Provide training for operators

6. Describe the guidelines for the installation and use of pressure vessels.
- Provide Each steam boiler and fired pressure vessel installed and operate in
this country shall have a valid certificate of fitness (CF).
- The steam boiler and fired pressure vessel shall first obtain design approval
from DOSH before fabrication, installation and operation.
