2: “Coward of the County”

Instructions: You will be listening to the song “Coward of the County” by Kenny Rogers. After
which, you will choose a partner among your classmates and communicate online, or through
any means, with him/her. Compare your responses with your partner regarding the role of
feelings in the decision made in the song. Submit your Song Analysis (one output per
PARTNER-only one will submit) through MS Teams using the format below.

“Coward of the County” Analysis

1. What happened to Tommy and his girlfriend, Becky?

Tommy was a guy who usually seen as coward, scared in fighting. But when the Gatlin
brothers hurt and took advantage Becky, the girl he loved, Tommy decided to be brave and
confront the Gatlin brothers who had harmed Becky. In a surprising turn of events, Tommy
locks the door behind him, trapping the Gatlin brothers inside the bar with him. Driven by built-
up anger and pent-up emotions, Tommy gets into a serious fight in the bar, knocking out all
three Gatlin brothers. After the altercation, Tommy reflects on his father's words,
acknowledging that sometimes a true man must fight.

2. Describe your own feelings after listening to the song

After listening to “Coward of the After hearing the song Coward of the
County,” I felt a mix of emotions such as County, I feel deeply emotional, which is

believe in and protect those you care about. his emotions because I also tried to feel

Anger and frustration is the emotion The feelings that we can feel and

COMPARISON:

The responses of students A and B are almost the same because both of them feel what
Tommy feels—the anger that Tommy taught him to become brave and strong to face
everyone without feeling any fear. Me and my partner also feel what exactly Tommy feels
after we listen to the song Coward of the County by Kenny Rogers.
