OBJECTIVE:
We have two important laws in the Philippines one is the Republic Act No.
10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, is a law in
the Philippines that aims to address illegal activities committed through
the use of computers and the internet. It covers offenses such as cybersex,
identity theft, hacking, spamming, and cyberbullying. The data privacy act
of 2012 provides for the protection of personal information from those who
should not have access to it and the ability of individuals to determine who
can access their personal information.
INSTRUCTIONS.
- Cybercrime can include many different types of profit-driven criminal

activity, including ransomware attacks, email and internet fraud, and
identity fraud, as well as attempts to steal financial account, credit
card or other payment card information.
- It protects the privacy of individuals while ensuring free flow of

information to promote innovation and growth; Regulates the
collection, recording, organization, storage, updating or modification,
retrieval, consultation, use, consolidation, blocking, erasure or
destruction of personal data; And ensures that the Philippines
complies with international standards set for data protection through
National Privacy Commission (NPC).

• Scope: Cybercrime can include many different types of profit-driven

criminal activity, including ransomware attacks, email and internet fraud,
and identity fraud, as well as attempts to steal financial account, credit

DATA PRIVACY.
• Scope: Role typically encompasses the development, implementation,

and enforcement of policies, procedures, and controls to protect personal
and sensitive data.
• Objective: Its purpose was to raise awareness of data protection issues

and promote privacy and responsible data management practices.
• Legal Implications: Find improper financial and credit activity in their

SIMILARITIES. ( Data privacy & Cybercrime. )

- The similarity of data privacy and cybercrime is that they both target
to get someone’s information because the cybercrime is a kind of
illegal activity to get other information and data privacy is all about the
information access.
DIFFERENCE. ( Data privacy & Cybercrime. )
- The differences between data privacy and cybercrime is that data

privacy is all about your own information and cybercrime is an illegal
job to obtain other personal information.
SIGNIFICANCE IM ADDRESSING LEGAL ISSUE.
- Cybercrime law provides rules of conduct and standards of behaviour for

the use of the Internet, computers, and related digital technologies, and
the actions of the public, government, and private organizations.
- Data privacy is also important because in order for individuals to be

willing to engage online, they have to trust that their personal data will be
handled with care.
CASE STUDY ANALYSIS.
- Cybercrime is a serious issue involving criminal activities conducted

through digital means. It includes hacking, identity theft, phishing,
malware distribution, and more. Preventing cybercrime requires
robust security measures, regular software updates, strong
passwords, and awareness of potential threats. Based by the news
article I had found a woman has been indicted for computer fraud
under the Philippines’ controversial cybercrime law. According to
Karla Martinez Ignacio could face up to six years in jail if found guilty
of transferring thousands of dollars to her bank account using
fraudulent computer data.
- Republic act no. 10173 the data privacy act, this data privacy act and
executive order to freedom of information is provide each government
office per section 2 shall ensure that personal information in it’s
custody or under it’s control is disclosed or released only if it's
material or relevant to the subject matter of the request and it’s
disclosure is permissible under this order, or existing law, rules and
regulations.
REFLECTION.
- Cybercrime is criminal activity that either targets or uses a computer,

a computer network or a networked device. Most cybercrime is
committed by cybercriminals or hackers who want to make money.
However, occasionally cybercrime aims to damage computers or
networks for reasons other than profit.
- Data Privacy is centered around how data should be collected, stored,

managed, and shared with any third parties, as well as compliance
with the applicable privacy laws (such as the California Consumer
Privacy Act- CCPA or General Data Protection Regulation GDPR).
DISCUSSION.
- Cybercrime refers to criminal activities that are carried out using

computers, networks, or the internet. It involves the use of
technology to commit illegal acts or to target individuals,
organizations, or governments. Here are some key points about
cybercrime:Types of Cybercrime: Cybercrime can take various forms,
including hacking, identity theft, phishing, malware attacks, online
scams, cyberbullying, ransomware, data breaches, and financial
fraud.Impact: Cybercrime can have significant consequences, both for
individuals and society as a whole. It can result in financial loss,
damage to reputation, invasion of privacy, disruption of critical
infrastructure, and even physical harm. Perpetrators: Cybercriminals
can be individuals, organized criminal groups, or even state-
sponsored actors. They often operate anonymously or use
sophisticated techniques to hide their identity and
location.Motivations: Cybercriminals may be driven by financial gain,
political motives, personal vendettas, or simply the desire to cause
chaos and disruption. They exploit vulnerabilities in computer
systems and networks to achieve their objectives.Prevention and
Protection: To protect against cybercrime, individuals and
organizations should adopt cybersecurity best practices. This
includes using strong passwords, keeping software and systems up to
date, being cautious of suspicious emails and links, using antivirus
software, and regularly backing up important data.
- Data privacy generally means the ability of a person to determine for

themselves when, how, and to what extent personal information
about them is shared with or communicated to others. This personal
information can be one’s name, location, contact information, or
online or real-world behavior.
CONCLUSION.
- Cybercrime is a growing and evolving threat in today’s digital world. It

encompasses a wide range of illegal activities conducted using
computers, networks, and the internet. Cybercriminals exploit
vulnerabilities in technology to commit crimes such as hacking,
identity theft, phishing, malware attacks, and financial fraud.The
impact of cybercrime can be significant, causing financial loss,
reputational damage, invasion of privacy, and disruption of critical
infrastructure. It affects individuals, businesses, and governments
alike. Cybercriminals can be individuals, organized criminal groups, or
even state-sponsored actors, often operating anonymously or using
sophisticated techniques to hide their identity.
- Investing in data privacy has a multitude of benefits, ranging from

user trust to reputational enhancement. With the increasing amount
of personal information being shared online, it is essential to
safeguard this information and prevent it from being exploited or
misused.
