Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body

Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation hose
Disconnect the MAP sensor connector
Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector

Remove
Timing chain
Disconnect thelayout
ignition coil wiring (6x)
Remove all the wiring from the cylinder head
Remove the ignition coil capacitors
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Left-hand side
Disconnect the camshaft position sensor electrical connector
Timing chain: removal/installation
Generalthe access plugs
Remove
Timing chain
Remove the camshaft

Note: Remove the right-hand camshaft gearwheel first
Remove the chain guide rail
Remove the chain tensioner guide
Remove the timing chain
Removal
Disconnect
Check the timing
the battery
marksearth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Installation
Fit the timing chain onto the camshaft gearwheels
Removal
Align the timing marks on the second timing chain
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Fit the timing chain onto the left-hand side camshaft gearwheel
Align the timing marks
Ensure the timing mark is located in between the two plated timing chain links
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Reset the tensioner
Disconnect
Turn the inlet
the special toolhose
overfrom the throttle body
(8186)
Check the O-ring (A)
Check the snap ring (B)
Renew if necessary
Slowly compress the tensioner
Check the position

Timing chain layout
Turn the camshaft until the bolt holes in the hub align with the holes in the camshaft gearwheel
Refit the camshaft gearwheel bolt(s) (28 Nm)
Pre-tension the timing chain
Unlock the tensioner

Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Tighten the bolt (10 Nm )
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
Special tools
Oil seal fitting tool: (6780-1, 6780-2, 8179)
Crankshaft pulley removal tool: (8194, 8454 )
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Drain the cooling system
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor
Disconnect the inlet hose from the throttle body
