RCD Project Guidelines
Guidelines:
1. Students will be divided into groups consisting of maximum of 5 members each.
2. Each group will design a 3-storey building, without roof deck.
3. The occupancy of ground floor and 2nd floor is commercial while 3rd floor is residential.
4. Lot area of the building is 800sqm – 1500sqm.
5. Students may create their own architectural plan or use an existing plan.
6. Design of structure will follow the ultimate design procedure in accordance with NSCP 2015
7. Only the critical structural members per floor is required to be designed.
8. Only dead load and live load will be considered for vertical loads in the design calculation.
9. Only wind load will be considered for lateral loads in the design calculation.
10. Structural design of members will include the following:
a. Beam
b. Slab
c. Column
d. Footing
11. Calculation for design of truss is not required to be submitted but the loads and details of truss
will be included on the output (connections are not included).
12. Students will design using manual calculations but they are allowed to use any design software
for checking and analysis.
13. The final output will include the following:
a. Floor Plan
b. Roof Plan
c. Elevation
d. Foundation Plan (indicate the most critical member)
e. Beam Framing Plan (indicate the most critical member)
f. Roof Beam Framing Plan (indicate the most critical member)
g. Floor Framing Plan (indicate the most critical member)
h. Design Parameters
i. Design Calculation
j. Beam Details (for the critical member of each floor)
k. Slab Detail (for the critical member of each floor)
l. Column Details (for the critical member of each floor)
m. Footing Details (for the critical member)
14. Plans and drawings are computer encoded/drawn and calculation is handwritten.
15. This output will be submitted in a long bond paper on the week before the Final Exam week.
