Design Criteria and Slab Design

The document discusses the design criteria and slab design for a project. It includes loadings, parameters for the slab design like maximum span, concrete strength and thickness, rebar size and spacing. It then performs calculations to check flexure and confirms the proposed rebar size and spacing is adequate.

Design Criteria and Slab Design:

I. Design Criteria:

Loadings:

Superimposed Dead Load, SDL = 8KPa

Live Load, LL = 3KPa

II. Design of Slab:

Parameters:
Max Span = 3.1m
Concrete Strength = 5000 psi
Thickness = 125mm
Rebar = 10mm Diameter @ 100mm Spacing Top bar and bottom bar both ways, 275MPa

Loadings:

Self-weight = 0.125*24 = 3KPa

Factored Load = 1.2*(3+5)+1.6*3 = 14.4 KPa

Shear and Moment (1m Strip):

Max Shear = 22.32 KN, Max Moment = 17.3 KN-m, Max Deflection = 4.46
Design checking of slab:

Checking for flexure:

Mu = ΦFc’bd^2*ω*(1-0.59* ω)

17300000 = 0.9*34.47*1000*100^2*ω*(1-0.59*ω)

ω = 0.0577

ρ = ω*fc’/fy = 0.0577*34.47/275 = 0.0072

As = 0.0072*100*1000 = 720 mm2

Asmin = 0.0018*125*1000 = 225mm2 < 720mm2, therefore use 720mm2 per 1m strip

10mm diameter rebar = 79mm2

720/79 = 9.11 pcs

1000mm/9.11 = 110mm > 100mm (OK)

Therefore, use 10mm @ 100mm spacing top bar and bottom bar both ways for slab is OK.
