Dear Sir/Ma,
A HUMBLE REQUEST FOR SUPPORT TOWARDS THE PROJECT “OFF THE STREET”
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
De re-builders hereby request cash donation, sponsorship and support in any kind from your great
establishment towards the actualization of the project “OFF THE STREET”.
De re-builders is an NGO established by young Nigerians with the yearning to help every Nigeria
child and youth develop in values, morals and basic skills that will through them create a Nigeria and
the world at large.
The project of the street is an initiative of De re-builders and the Daniel generation (RCCG Youth
Church of Olive Tree Parish, Ikoyi)
De re-builders group has recognized the need to empower, re-orientation and give hope to at least
240 under privileged children, teenagers and youth through its flagship program “OFF THE
STREET” on the 27th of May, 2011 (CHILDREN’S DAY).
It has been observed that in Nigeria, children from extremely poor background which constitute a
larger proportion of the general children population do not experience any buzz or joy that comes
with being a child on children’s day.
Apart from this, we have also discovered that a lot of under privileged children are engaged in all
sorts of negative activities because of a lack of proper counseling, monitoring, education and
vocational skills not as a result of lack of talent or intelligence.
Therefore, De re-builders group in keeping with our mission statement of empowering the youth has
decided to host 240 children/teenagers to an event which will set the stage for empowering 240
children/teenagers through educational and vocational training.
There, children who must be between the ages of 9-18 will be counseled to determine their needs.
They shall also be entertained on the same day.
However, depending on the advice from well qualified counselors, De re-builders shall see to it that
24 of these children will be enrolled in vocational centers and tutorial centers in preparation for next
academic session.
It is important to note that there and many more which will be done by the De re-builders group
needs finance. We can’t all fold our arms and let things delay without acting. Therefore we request a
grant of -------------------------------------as part finance needed for successful implementation of this
programme.
As more well meaning Nigerian organizations contribute to the formulated of a better future for
Nigerian children, we humble urge your great and socially responsible organization to respond
favorably to the cries of there future leaders.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Try and recollect the number of children you have come across lacking different articles and wave in
different locations in Lagos state alone and places ranging from street to street corners to highways
during traffic jams. Some are even left to wander aimlessly without any sense of direction or purpose.
De re-builders group as a body has realized that a large number of the children who fall into these
categories are from extremely poor background where single meal a day is a luxury. Therefore, the
prospect of getting the financial where withal to pay for educational or vocational training is bleak.
In most cases, it becomes normal not to even think along the line of empowerment when they don’t
need a rocket scientist to fell them that their parents cannot afford it. These children’s paradigm is
usually shifted from preparing for the future of living a live fraught with a lack of hope.
We have seen a large percentage of these children grow into miscreants and dangerous criminals in
line with the over used cliché “an idle hand is the devil’s work shop”. However, we have seen that a
little help nip this problem in a bud.
Apart from education, vocational skills are very important. It is highly disturbing to know that a large
number of teenagers who for some of the reasons stated earlier have not been able to get education
still do not get vocational training.
As a result, of this, self reliance is unattainable except through engaging in nefarious activities which
are inimical to the greater future of our initiative of “OFF THE STREETS” which is an initiative of
De re-builders and the Daniel generation (RCCG Youth Church of Olive Tree, Parish, Ikoyi) is
meant to take the children off the streets because, the street is not where they belong. They are great
vessels which should be protected, guided, mentored, counseled and cared for.
Have you ever wondered that while some children from privileged backgrounds are enjoying
themselves at various amusement packs on the 27th of May (Children’s Day), some children some
where don’t get any thing decent to eat throughout the day?.
If we can feed at least 240 of these children and create an environment of amusement and joy for
them on this day, won’t we have brought hope to some lives?
If we can lay the foundation for the future of 10% this population on that same day; we world have
achieved something for the bright future of our county.
We have a great communication that we can bring smiles to the faces of these neglected ones ye, we
can bring hope to the lines with “OFF THE STREETS”
“OFF THE STREET’S which is a flagship project of De re-builders is out to achieve the following
objectives
1. Identify 240 children that are in dire need of care, education al/vocational training, counseling
and mentoring.
2. Provide an atmosphere of celebration for 240 under privileged children in Iyana-Oworo and
Bariga on children’s day.
3. Provision of counseling services to 240 children/teenagers on May 27th, 2011.
4. Provide vocational and educational training for 10% of the 240 children invited for the
children’s day celebration.
5. Provision of constant monitoring and counseling for the 24 children/teenagers to be trained.
1. IDENTIFICATION OF WARDS
De re-builders will through forty (40) volunteer workers comb the whole of Barija/Iyana Oworo on
the 27th of May 2011, harmed with assessment forms in order to identify children who are most in
need of one.
Although, we know that every child needs to be taken care of. However, since we can’t cater for
everybody, hence the need to identify the most neglected of them all.
The volunteer workers which are forty in number are to be paired. Each pairs are saddled with the
responsibility of presenting the data twelve children who will be invited for the children’s day
celebration. The well trained volunteer workers will also meet with parent/guardians of these children
for the purpose of invitation.
For most children who find themselves in poor environment and backgrounds, children’s day
celebration is only heard or seen but never experienced.
Therefore, De re-builders has decided to make a celebration a reality for 240 children at the EVA
Adelaja secondary school compound in Bariga on the 27 th of May, 2011. At this event, which we are
leaving no stones unturned, to make thoroughly enjoyable one, we shall give out denoted clothing,
food, shoes and drinks with some other souvenirs. There will also be music games, competition and
many more activities to create an atmosphere of excitement and joy for these children. We shall also
provide brain tasking activities at the event to broaden the knowledge of these children.
3. COUNSELING
To many children who come from poverty stricken background, seeking to understanding them in
order to, help and prefer solutions to their individual problem and challenges are almost non existent.
However, we do realize that counseling sessions will have far reaching effects on a child or teenagers.
This is important because the focus of this project is children between the ages of 9-18. Counseling
this class of children, there is a need to get to the core of their thought systems. Any move without
consideration for the fact that they have feelings which should be respected; will be a journey of
futility. We therefore, have experienced counselors who will divide these children into different
groups depending on their age group for proper counseling. If a child or teenager will know the
importance of basic education and vocational skills, it has to be trough counseling
Randomly, from a total of 24 wards, the counselors shall decide which ward is fit to go through
educational training and which one is fit to get vocational training. However these 24 children shall
have their training bankrolled by De re-builders in partnership with various educational and
vocational centers.
These children will be monitored at their various places of training from time to time by the
volunteer workers from De re-builders. Although, they have been set in the right direction, their
progress should still be monitored for a desired outcome.
These wards will need the experience, love, care and understanding of mentors who will help them
through the challenges they might encounter in the course of their training. This will also assist and
ensure that we identify those wards who might not settle at the centre of training.
