Electronic and Electrical Drafting
Electricity
Apparatus:
1. Plyboard
2. Trunking
3. 3 yards 1.5mm2 wire
4. Distribution Panel
5. 1 2ft tube fluorescent lamp
6. 3 bulbs and sockets
7. 2 two-way one gang switches
8. 1 two- way two gang switch
9. Socket plug
Procedure:
1. Draw a floor plan.
2. Draw the circuit by using line diagram in the house plan.
3. Draw a block diagram to represent the distribution of electricity in the
circuit.
4. Build the circuit using the materials as said in apparatus.
Discussion:
1. Electrical diagrams are drawings which are used to represent electrical
circuits. These circuits are represented by using lines, symbols and number
combinations. Electrical diagrams show the wiring between components
and the relative position of the components.
2. The symbols used in the line diagram are to distinguish between the
different components. The components are:
Fluorescent lamp
Bulbs
Outside lamp
One way switch
Distribution panel
Two-way switch
The picture below represents the different symbols used to differentiate
between the components in the circuit.
3. The circuit can be used to power a small 1 story building with one bedroom,
1 bathroom and washroom, a kitchen and dining room and a living room.
Observations:
It could have been observed that the wire connecting to the socket wasn’t
allowing it to rest flat on the plyboard. As a result, we tried breaking out that part
of the socket but ended up damaging a large chunk of the socket. A new one was
bought, and the trunking ran over that part of the wire and the bulb was ended
up being screwed down so that it could rest flat.
Relevant Theory:
An electrical circuit is an interconnection of electrical components. An electrical
circuit consists of fuse boxes, wires, bulbs, sockets and a few more components.
An electrical network consists of a closed path where electrons flow in a wire.
The most important part of the circuit would be the distribution panel. This
is so because the entire circuit relies on the distribution panel to get its power
once it is connected to a source of electricity. The key principle of the distribution
panel is that is works by providing the main switch of the circuit that controls the
power for the entire circuit.
The two gang light switch works by having two wires in between two
different switches. These two wires act as an alternate bridge point between the
switches that allow them to connect the circuit to the light source from either
switch. The one gang switch is used when two switches control a single bulb.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the candidate learnt about the different components of a circuit.
He also learnt how to input those components in the line diagram and the
differences between the type of switches. He also learnt how to wire a circuit that
is used in the home, and he believes that this circuit can also be used in the home.
