SANTA ANA, CAGAYAN

Santa Ana is a coastal municipality in the province of Cagayan.

The municipality has a land area of 440.81 square kilometers or 170.20 square miles
which constitutes 4.69% of Cagayan’s total area. Its population as determined by the
2020 Census was 35,688. This represented 2.81% of the total population of Cagayan
province, or 0.97% of the overall population of the Cagayan Valley region. Based on
these figures, the population density is computed at 81 inhabitants per square kilometer
or 210 inhabitants per square mile.

LOCATION

The municipal center of Santa Ana is situated at approximately 18° 27′ North, 122° 9′ East, in the
island of Luzon. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 7.0 meters or 23.0 feet above
mean sea level.

LOCAL DELICACIES AND DISHES

1. Pancit Batil Patung – If there’s one dish you definitely want to try and is recommended
by the Cagayan locals, then it would be this. The Pancit Batil Patung is an iconic noodle
dish that started in Tuguegarao City. What makes it unique from all noodle dishes is the
use of carabao meat or carabeef which has a much distinct gamey flavor compared to
other meats.

2. Chicharabao – Chicharabao is carabao chicharron. This puffy, airy, and crispy snack is
made out of carabao skin. It is popular to buy as souvenirs and comes in a variety of
flavors you can choose from.

3. Carabao Milk Candy - Carabao milk candy can be akin to pastillas. But unlike pastillas,
they are chewy rectangular chips. It’s also a great souvenir to buy.
4. Pawa – Pawa is a sweet bite-sized snack that is made from gelatinous rice. It’s a kakanin
that’s filled with sweetened grounded peanuts. You’ll be able to buy them on the streets near the
Piat Church.

5. Putoflan – These little treats are a variation of the puto. As with its name, it is combined with
Leche flan at the bottom, making it much better.

6. Lumot – A dish akin to Bicol’s Laing, Lumot is a salty seaweed dish. Its name is inspired by
its algae-like consistency and is often paired with other plates of seafood like grilled fish.

7. Abalin - a popular exotic food, especially in Cagayan, enjoyed and considered a

special delicacy by both Ibanags, Itawits, and the Ilokanos. It is cooked stir-fried and
can be taken as a snack. It is rich in protein but is also considered a food allergen.
8. Stone FIsh Soup - Stone fish soup, locally known as "tinolang isda ng batuhan" or

"tinolang kagang," is a traditional dish in Cagayan, Philippines, particularly in coastal


areas where stone fish, locally known as "kagang" or "batuhan," are abundant

9.Pancit Cabagan - Another variation of pancit (noodles) in Cagayan, Pancit Cabagan

features stir-fried noodles with a savory sauce, mixed with vegetables, meat, and
sometimes shrimp or seafood.
10.Sinampalukang Manok - A sour soup made with chicken, Sinampalukang Manok is
flavored with tamarind (sampalok) and often includes vegetables like tomatoes, string
beans, and taro leaves. It's a comforting and flavorful dish enjoyed in Cagayan.

11. Dinakdakan - A dish similar to sisig, Dinakdakan is made from grilled pork parts
(such as ears, face, or belly) that are chopped and mixed with onions, chili peppers,
calamansi juice, and vinegar. It's a flavorful and popular appetizer or pulutan in Cagayan.
