Yaoundé, on 12 April 2024

The English language online course for Action Against Hunger started with its preparatory
activities at the end of 2023. The first term took off with the teachings on 22 nd January and
came to an end on 5th of April. The following report shall focus on 5 key elements: the
Placement Test, teaching/learning activities, evaluations, attendance and promotion.

A. Placement test
After the placement test which was prior to the beginning of the training, the 10 officials
from Action Against Hunger were divided into two groups on the basis of their output in the
test but also the report card showing this input the last time they took a course with the
Yaoundé Pilot Linguistic Centre.
Group A:
Levels: Elementary (A2) to Lower intermediate (B1):
- MOHAMADOU Ahmadou
- EDANG Stéphane
- EKAMBY Armel
- TONYE MBONGO Danièle
- NDJANDJI Nicaise
- TIEWA Alida
Group B:
Levels: Intermediate (B2) to Upper intermediate (C1):
- EBO NTYAME Gilles Alaïs
- FOPA Mélanie
- FOUENE Vanessa
- KOUTAPTOU MOUCHILI Zounedou

B. Teaching/learning activities
Group A held their sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 14:00 to 16:00.
Group B held theirs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14:00 to 16:00 as well.
The term lasted three months (12 weeks) from 22nd of January to 4th April.
The teachers assigned to the course were:
Group A: Mr. Roland Philippe MBOCK and Mrs. ONDJI’I TOUNG Esther Patience;
Group B: Mr. EYAMO OMOKO Olivier and Mr. Roland Philippe MBOCK
Sessions were held on Google Meet. Google Classroom was used for assignments and tests.
When some internet disturbances made the use of any of them challenging, Whatsapp was
solicited as recourse.
Pedagogic material
Group A
Coursebook: Intelligent Business Pre-intermediate (units 1 to 5) mostly used on Mondays. On
Wednesdays, the teacher selected instructive videos and supplementary materials from the
Inside Out Video series.
Group B
Coursebook: Intelligent Business Upper intermediate (units 1 to 6) mostly used on Tuesdays.
On Thursdays, work was based on the Business News Lessons series of Onestopenglish.
Lessons with the coursebook consisted in working on language points theoretically and
practically. Activities included keynotes on themes, reading, listening, writing, speaking and
language check (grammar and vocabulary).
Lessons with the video (Pre-intermediate) included watching a video and working on
comprehension activities. Some grammar and vocabulary points were also discussed and the
sessions generally ended in a guided discussion.
Business News lessons (Upper intermediate) were organised around a given business news
article taken from a British newspaper accompanied with discussions, grammar and
vocabulary activities.
Both course schedules were 100% covered.

C. Evaluation, attendance rates and promotion decisions.

Two tests were taken by the participants in each group. The first was written in week 6 and
the second in week 12. Each of the tests included five parts: listening, use of English
(grammar and vocabulary), writing, reading and speaking and lasted two hours.
Results
Group A

Names Test 1 Test 2 Total Attendance Decision

MOHAMADOU Ahmadou 28.75 36.25 90% Promoted
EDANG Stéphane 38.25 38.25 75% Promoted
EKAMBY Armel 25 29.75 54.75 80% Promoted
TONYE MBONGO Danièle 40.5 40 80.5 100% Promoted
NDJANDJI Nicaise 33 33.25 66.25 100% Promoted
TIEWA Alida 23 31.25 54.25 100% Promoted

MOHAMADOU’s and EDANG’s second test submissions were not done properly for technical
reasons. Indeed, the internet was very unstable on that day. Unanimously, the class teachers
decided to promote them to the next module thanks to their irreproachable behaviours ad
commitment during the term.
Group B

Names Test 1 Test 2 Total Attendance Decision

EBO NTYAME Gilles Alaïs 29.75 37.5 67.25 90% Promoted
FOPA Mélanie 29.75 40 69.75 100% Promoted

D. Difficulties encountered.
The training could have been riddled by difficulties relating to the instability of the electricity
and internet provision, but both the ACF participants and the Yaoundé Pilot Linguistic Centre
teaching team always made it possible to minimize the challenges.
We are looking forward to the beginning of the next module on 22 nd April 2024 to continue
on the same line.
