Ghost Blitz Gameplay

About the game: The game “Ghost Blitz” is a competitive game that tests not only your observation
skills, but your reaction time as well. It can be played by up to 8 players, and takes roughly 10 minutes
per round. The game includes five wooden pieces as shown below: a red chair, a blue book, a white
ghost, a grey mouse, and a green bottle. It also includes a deck of cards, with images of those items in
different combinations and colours.

Overview: The object of the game is to be the first person to grab the correct wooden item indicated by
the card that’s turned up. The player who choses the correct item earns that card, and the player with
the most cards at the end of the game wins. Sounds simple, right?

The challenge is embedded in the images on the cards. There are two different styles of cards that will
randomly appear:

1. A card showing one item where the colour doesn’t match the actual item on the table, and one
item that is the correct colour
2. A card showing two items, neither of which match the colour of the actual items on the table

In the first scenario, players must grab the one item on the table that is exactly as shown on the card.
For example, if the card shows a white ghost sitting on a blue chair, the only correct item to choose is
the white ghost.

In the second scenario, players must grab the one item on the table that is missing from the card. For
example, if the card shows a grey ghost sitting on a blue chair, the only correct item to choose is the
green bottle – neither a bottle, nor the colour green are shown on the card.

Caution: there is a penalty for grabbing the wrong item – anyone doing so must give up one of the cards
they’ve previously won, handing it back to the dealer. The dealer will place it on the bottom of the deck
so it comes up in play again.

How to Play: First, one player will take on the role of the
dealer. They will be responsible for turning the cards
over and awarding them to the player who chooses the
correct item. They will also watch for players grabbing
the wrong pieces, as anyone doing so loses one of the
cards they’ve already won, giving it back to the dealer to
be placed on the bottom of the deck.

To set up the game, place all five wooden objects in the

middle of the table within reaching distance of all the
players. All players must agree on a common hand
position for the start of a round (hands in lap, or hands
resting flat on the table, for example). To begin the
game, the dealer flips over one card, and the players attempt to grab the correct item.

As play continues, the items are reset in the middle of the table as they are grabbed or knocked over. Be
sure that all players return their hands to the agreed upon position before flipping the next card.

When the card deck has been exhausted, all players count the number of cards they’ve won. The player
with the most cards is the winner of the game.

A tip: Within the five items included in the game Ghost Blitz, ten elements are at play – five colours (red,
blue, white, grey and green) and five objects (a chair, a book, a ghost, a mouse and a bottle). Looking for
these elements separately instead of together can help players identify the correct object to grab more
quickly.
