Q4] SIGNIFICANCE OF 26TH
JANUARY
*At the Calcutta session an ultimatum was given to the
British to accept the Nehru Report or face a mass
movement.
*There was no positive response from the British.
*At the Lahore session of the Congress held in Dec 1929 a
resolution for Purna Swaraj or Complete Independence was
passed.
*26 January 1930 was fixed as the first Independence day
which was to be celebrated every year
*Since then the day was celebrated as Independence Day.
*After achieving independence
26 January was designated as Republic Day
