Dear Larry,
I was delighted to receive your letter dated 11th January, and to learn that you are doing well. I
am happy to inform you that I will be publishing an article on the school's weekly magazine. The
article will focus mainly on the plight of children undergoing child labour. The contents will try
to enlighten children on the dangers that are associated with child labour or forced labour. In the
publications, I will highlight what entails child labour and also cite some examples of cases of
child labour.
The materials will have several illustrations that are child friendly. They will be large enough so
that the young children can read and enjoy them as they gain knowledge about the vice of child
labour. Our Social Studies teacher, Mrs Nyagol, is helping in editing them so as to ensure they
are error-free. She is also helping with the ideas. The head teacher has also promised to support
in publishing the articles.
I welcome good ideas that can help me improve further. I hope you will be of great help since I
know from the experience you went through as a child labourer, you must be a good source of
knowledge.
Many communities in Kenya hold annual community cultural festivals to celebrate their cultures.
These festivals have been part and parcel of Kenyan community celebrations over the years.
They are majorly done to mark rites of passage and cycles of community traditions and practices.
They are vehicles through which cultural traditions and practices are transmitted through
performances and exhibitions. They promote intercultural understanding and showcase various
communities' rich and diverse cultural expressions. Further, they are platforms for nurturing
talents and providing an avenue to market cultural expressions. These festivals are major tourist
attractions both at local and international levels. The community cultural festivals are deeply
rooted as even city and urban dwellers have designed unique cultural celebrations in urban
settings. For example' many hotels in Nairobi host annual community cultural celebrations
themed on particular ethnic groups and these attract large audiences. The celebrations in urban
settings are not only avenues for cultural expression but also economic ventures for major hotels.
These celebrations keep alive cultural connections of city dwellers with their ethnic cultures.

In a warm simmer afternoon in a park or garden, bees are buzzing around the flowers.
You might be sitting in the sun and feeling kind of lazy. But the bees are busy doing work that is
important to you. Bees work very hard day and night. They are also very organized.
Bees are insects. They have three pairs of legs and four wings. Like all insects, they have
a head, thorax and abdomen. They have mouth parts and a tongue for collecting nectar. Becs live
in groups called colonies. They can also live in hives. They like flowers and you can see them
from one flower to another. They collect nectar and pollen as food. They also make wax'which is
used to make candles. Bees have a queen. There is only one queen in the hive. The queen lays
eggs in the hive. There are other bees called workers. They make the hive and collect nectar.

Jack and I examined the bread-fruit. We were much struck with its broad leaves which
were twelve or eighteen inches long, deeply indented and of a glossy smoothness like laurel.
The tree bears two or three crops of fruits in a year-much like wheatened bread in
appearance. It is found in shape, about six inches in diameter with a rough outer skin. It forms
the principal food of many south sea islanders. The fruit of the tree we inspected hung in clusters
of twos and threes on the branches and were of various colours from light pea-green to brown
and rich yellow. Jack said the yellow fruits were ripe. The trunk was twenty feet high, being
quite destitute of the branches upto that height, where it branched off into a beautiful head. The
wood which is durable and of a good colour is used to build native houses, the bark of the young
branches being made into cloth. Another product of this wonderful tree is the gum which serves
the natives for pitching their canoes.

Drug use is on the rise among the youth today. Young people experiment with both hard drugs
and alcohol. Some claim it gives them a shared experience. Others say drugs help them to calm
down. There are those who are tricked into believing that drugs would help them solve whatever
problems they have. The end result is getting addicted.
Alcoholism for instance, is a chronic disorder in which a person is unable to refrain from
frequent and excessive consumption of alcohol. Excessive drinking damages the liver and leads
to liver cirrhosis. The alcoholic has impaired judgement and disturbed sleep.
The government of Kenya has ensured that there is no sale of alcohol for children under the age
of 18. In Kenya, it is illegal for minors to consume alcohol. According to the Alcoholic Drinks
Control Act 2010, it is an offense for a person to sell, give, or supply alcoholic drinks to a person
under the age of 18. It is also an offense for a person under the age of 18 to purchase, attempt to
purchase, or consume alcoholic drinks.
Surprisingly we still find some rogue businessmen doing the contrary. This menace of drug and
substance use should be fought by everyone. It should not be left to the government alone. We
all need a society that will develop tomorrow. We all need leaders tomorrow. We all need a
generation after us. For us to achieve all that, we must bring up our children in the right way.
They should know that drug and substance use is something to be avoided like the plague.

To make matters worse, the lion was unable to identify who the donkey was and who the zebra
was because they looked so much alike. One day, the lion came up with an idea to paint stripes
so that he could tell them apart. He would thereafter hide somewhere in the bush and watch who
The hare who did the job for the lion had an idea; he would charge them more. But before he
decided on that, he talked to the lion. The lion was not only angry with the hare but also with the
donkeys. Eventually the hare charged them double the price and painted them the same way he
had done to the zebras. To date, the lion cannot know who is the zebra and which one is the

The benefits of being a true sportsperson are many. A successful sportsperson in school gets an
opportunity to represent their school at different levels. This builds self-esteem and provides
great inspiration to others.
Think of athletes like Eliud Kipchoge, Vivian Cheruiyot, Geoffrey Kamworor to mention just
but a few. Do they not inspire you? I believe they do. They all started by participating in sports
while in school.
Character and personal growth are other important things you can achieve from sports. Being a
true sportsperson requires a great deal of discipline. You mould yourself into becoming the best
at what you do. It creates a sense of worth and pride to be a role model to others. One also grows
financially. The sports industry is one of the most rewarding industries in the world today.
Sportspeople are highly paid, especially when they get to national and international levels.
There is also the benefit of developing teamwork and problem-solving skills. Working to
achieve a common goal in a group teaches group discipline and selflessness. You learn to

missing PERSONS, not missing DOGS," said the irritated policeman. "Well, who
can I report this to?" She asked. "You can't. You have to ask around your
neighborhood or put-up flyers," replied the officer.
Mrs. Naliaka figured that a billboard would work better than a piece of paper on a
telephone pole. There was an empty billboard at the end of her street just off the
roundabout on the highway. The bill board had a phone number on it. She called
that number, and they told her they could blow up a picture of Clyde from Mrs.
Naliaka's picture album and put it on the billboard for all to see. "But how can
people see it when they walk by on the roundabout?" She asked. "Oh, don't worry,
The month has passed, but Clyde has not appeared. Because she has almost no
money in savings, Mrs. Naliaka called the local newspaper to see if anyone could
help her rent the billboard for just one more month. She is waiting but, so far, no
one has stepped forward.
Questions
Soon after I started secondary school, I saw a group of girls dancing to the latest
songs in the school gym. They looked really good and I started to take an interest
in the class, even though it was just looking through the window at first. Then one
day a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to join. I liked the idea of starting with
someone I knew. Moreover, we had both danced together for fun at my house or
her house, so it didn't seem like such a big step to join a class together.
That was 3 years ago. Since then, I've been going every week and I love it.
Sometimes I help teach the classes for the little children. People tell me I'm very
good and my teacher has said I should enter local competitions, even ones that
could mean you dance on TV.

Anna was a popular girl at school. Everyone liked her very much because she always treated
everyone kindly. Whenever anyone had a problem and needed help, they would go to her and she
was ready to help.
One day, there was a celebration held in their school. This celebration was commonly referred to
as Best Friend's Day. The teacher asked everyone to make three presents to give to three of their
best friends. Everyone made presents for their friends but Anna was confused because she
considered every one as her friend. When the presents were distributed, Anna did not get any
present. She became really sad. Later in the evening, she told her mother what had happened.
Her mother said, "your best friend is the person you give a lot of time and attention to and are
willing to support you even when times are hard." She also said, "you cannot have everybody as
your best friend because there will never be enough time to spend with all of them."
Anna finally understood what it means to have a best friend. She now knew that her best friend
would be her mother and gave her the presents she had made.

One day, there was an argument between the chameleon and hare. Chameleon was tired of hare
making fun of him because of his eating habits and slow nature when he walked. To stop the
argument, they decided to race to see who would win.
Hare was so confident that he would win that he started bragging to everyone about it. Tortoise
was asked to be the judge. Tortoise said the first to sit on the stool at the finishing line would be
the winner. The race started and when hare looked back, he did not see chameleon. He relaxed
and started walking slowly while eating fruits on the side of the road. When hare reached the
stool, he prepared to sit down but he heard a little voice telling him, "don't sit on me, hare, am
already here." It turned out chameleon had attached himself on to hare's tail and jumped onto the
stool as soon as hare turned to sit down. Hare was so surprised. The animals who had come to
watch the race cheered chameleon and carried him high in the air. Hare walked away in shame.

The constitution is the fundamental principles or established rules that constitute the legal basis
of a political party, organization or other type of entity and commonly determines how that entity
is to be governed. When these principles are written down into a single document or set of legal
documents, those documents may be said to embody a written constitution.
The Kenyan constitution acts as a safeguard against human rights violation. The human rights
contained in the constitution is the right to life, freedom of speech, association and religion, right
to own land or business and several more. Without the constitution, there would be disorder and
chaos. Without the constitution everyone would do as they please without regard to others.
People wouldn't care whom they hurt and this world would be impossible to live in.

Every child has a number of rights, some of which they know and some they don't. A child
enjoys the right to education when he or she is taken to school and all the academic needs met in
good time. Right to shelter is enjoyed when a child is provided with somewhere good to live.
This protects them from harsh weather conditions like cold. Children must also be provided with
nutritious meals as a way of meeting their right to good food. Other rights include right to play
which helps them relate well with their friends and agemates and right to air their views.
However, they should know their responsibilities both in school and at home. For instance, it is
their responsibility to help in cleaning and taking good care of property. -
