Important to note
Definitions of angle
(i) Acute angle is an angle between 00 and
900. It lies in the 1st quadrant
(ii) Right angle is an angle = 900
(iii) Obtuse angle is an angle between 900 and 1800. It lies in the 2nd quadrant
(iv) Reflex angle is an angle between 1800 and 3600. It lies in the 3rd and 4th quadrants

1. If sin 𝜃 = 5 and 00 ≤ 𝜃 ≤ 3600. Find the possible values of 3tanθ – cotθ

2. If 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜃 = and θ is reflex, find the value of 4sec2θ + 𝑡𝑎𝑛𝜃


3. Given that 7 𝑡𝑎𝑛𝜃 + 𝑐𝑜𝑡𝜃 = 5𝑠𝑒𝑐𝜃, derive a quadratic equation for 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝜃. Hence or otherwise,
find all values of θ in the interval 00 ≤ θ ≤ 1800 which satisfy the equation, giving your answer to
the nearest 0.10 where necessary (Ans θ= 19.50, 300, 1500, 160.50)
4. Solve for θ in the following equations
(i) 3tan23θ = 1 (Ans: θ=100, 500, 700, 1100, 1300, 1700, 1900, 2300, 2500, 2900,
3100, 3500}
(ii) 2cos2θ + =0
5. Solve for θ, where θ0 ≤ θ ≤ 3600
(i) 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝜃𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑐𝜃 + 2𝑠𝑒𝑐𝜃 – 2𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑐𝜃 – 4 = 0 (θ = 600, 2100, 3000, 3300)
(ii) tan2θ – (√3 + 1)tanθ + √3 = 0. (Ans: θ = 450, 600, 2250, 2400]
6. Solve the following equations for 00 ≤ θ ≤3600
(i) 3cosθ + 2 = 0 (Ans: θ= 131.80, 228.20}
(ii) 4cos2θ – 1 = 0 ,θ: θ= 600, 1200, 2400, 3000}
(iii) 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑐𝜃 + 2 = 0 (Ans: θ= 2100, 3300}
(iv) 3sec2θ – 4 = 0 (Ans: θ = 300, 1200, 2100, 3300}
7. Solve the following equations for -1800 ≤ x ≤ 1800
(i) 2cos2θ + 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝜃 – 1 = 0 (Ans: θ= -1500, - 300, 900 for given range]
(ii) 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜃 + √3𝑠𝑖𝑛𝜃 = 1 (ans θ: θ= -600, 1200)
8. Find the solution of 3𝑐𝑜𝑡𝜃 + 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑐𝜃 = 2 for 00 ≤ θ ≤ 1800.
9. Solve the following equations for -1800 ≤ 𝜃≤ 1800
(i) 2cos2θ + 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝜃 – 1 = 0 ( θ = -1500, - 300, 900]

10. Solve each of the following equations in the stated range


(i) 4cos2θ + 2sin θ = 4 00 ≤ θ ≤ 3600 ( θ = 00, 48.60, 131.40, 1800, 3600]
(ii) 2sec2θ – 4tanθ – 2 = 0 for -1800 ≤ θ ≤ 3600 (θ = -1350, -161.60, 18.40, 450]

11. Solve for θ; 0≤ θ ≤ 360

14. Solve equation
8cos4θ – 10cos2θ + 3 for 00 ≤ θ ≤ 1800 (θ: θ = 300, 450, 1350, 1500

15. Solve the simultaneous equation

B. ELIMINATION OF TRIGONOMETRIC PARAMETER

This involves the use of identities to eliminate the trigonometric values in equation
