PRESENTATION

The “Reading of Electrical Installation Plans” manual has been updated based on the
Curricular Program of the Course on Reading of Electrical Installation Plans and taking into
account the needs of the course participants, in the interpretation of a project based on the
blueprints.

The objective of this manual is to serve as a guide for participants; as well as the teachers
in charge of the development of the course, facilitating the planning of the contents and
their orderly and sequential execution, summarizing the basic criteria and the interpretation
of the different construction details designed in the plans prepared by the engineer in
accordance with the Regulations. National Building Code in force.

In the different chapters of the manual, various concepts are presented, ranging from basic
topics to the study and interpretation of projects.

On this occasion, two projects are considered, the first is a new construction corresponding
to a home and the second is a remodeling and expansion of a restaurant.

It should be noted that this manual, like any educational document, will be subject to
readjustments when necessary to improve the contents by including new and/or
complementary topics.

In this sense, the contributions and suggestions of users will be received with the
recognition of the Professional Training Management of SENCICO. READING OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION PLANS

2. GENERAL FEATURES.

The plan, as an instrument of information on building projects, is independent of

who draws it and who can read it; This means that the plan, at the same time that
it informs, must be clear enough so that anyone can read and interpret it, because
the plans complement each other, and only multiple consultations can bring us
closer to complete understanding. of the project.

So is it possible to execute a work without having a project?

In no way, there must always be a project, an idea prior to any realization and for it
to be transmitted and executed by third parties, symbols and graphics must be
used, which are found within the plans.

3. BLUEPRINTS

3.1 Definition

The plans are the most used graphic documents that constitute the project and
therefore must be complete, sufficient and concise, that is, include all the
information necessary to be able to execute the work that is the object of the
project in the most concrete way possible and without giving unnecessary
information, because it must be read and interpreted by the construction workers
and engineers.

They are graphic representations of all the elements that a project proposes, they
are the flat geometry of the projected works in a way that completely defines them
in their three dimensions.

3.2 Applications

The projects prepared by the responsible professionals must meet sufficient

information requirements to:

a) Allow the owner to recognize that the information contained in the plans and

READING OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION PLANS

specifications corresponds to his needs.

b) Understand the scope and characteristics of the project by the Technical

Project Qualifying Commissions or whoever acts in their place.

c) Ensure that the builder has all the elements that allow him to estimate the
cost of the building and subsequently execute it without setbacks.

The purpose of the plans is to provide the complete and necessary information
that allows those who read them to interpret the design of the building, its style, its
distribution, its structural system and facilities.

1
1
3.3 Plans and documents necessary for the electrical installation project

According to Standard GE.020 of the National Building Regulations, which refers

to the Components and Characteristics of Projects, the electrical installation
project must contain the following information:

a) Lighting plan and power outlets by levels.

b) Electrical panel diagram plans.

c) Meter bank detail plans.

d) Construction detail plans.

e) Technical specifications of the materials.

f) Execution procedure, if necessary.

3.4 Formats

DENOMINATION MEASURES

A4 (210 x 297 mm.)

A3 (297 x 420 mm.)
A2 (420 x 594 mm.)
A1 (594 x 841 mm.)
A0 (841 x 1189 mm.)

4. SCALE.

The name scale refers to the magnitude by which a real object has been reduced
READING OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION PLANS

or enlarged in the drawing. It is commonly impossible to draw a building or a detail

of it on a plan in its real size.

Reduction scale: In the case of a building, it would be too large to be captured on

a plan, so its dimensions need to be reduced proportionally so that it can fit on the
plan.

Magnification scale: In the case of a detail, it would be too small to be able to

detail all its elements. To achieve the objective of capturing these architectural
objects, it is necessary to proportionally expand the dimensions of the object.

1
2
The ratio of increase or decrease is called the scale of the drawing. These scales
are called proportion scales, and they indicate the proportion that exists between
the real object and the drawing, for example, the scale of 1/100 or 1:100 means
that the drawing has a size 100 times smaller than the real object.

The most common scales are: 1/500, 1/100, 1/50, 1/25, 1/20, 1/10, 1/5 and 1/1.

The instrument to measure the different scales is a ruler with a triangular section
that has six different graphic scales on its faces and on each graphic scale there
are graphic units according to the proportion used, its name is scalemeter.

They are also used to deduce from the plans the actual measurements
represented on them to scale and if the work does not have a scale meter,
measurements can be specified using the meter or metal tape.

5. LETTERHEAD.

It is a box with divisions that every plan contains to indicate data regarding the
work, such as:

The location or address of the work.

For example: La Poesía Street No. 123 - Limatambo Urbanization - San Borja
District.
READING OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION PLANS

6. SYMBOLOGY.

In the plans of electrical installations, as in those of other specialties, the

expression or graphic language is used, essentially consisting of lines and
symbols, conceived in a conventional way, that is, they do not give rise to different
interpretations, but rather to the that was assigned.

Knowledge of these graphic representations is essential for those involved in the

construction of civil works.

It is because of these symbols that are included in the plans that it is relatively
easy to deduce its elements. Therefore, the need and obligation to include them.

11. ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS PROJECT.

Set of circuits, which serve to provide electrical energy to the building.

To make the development of these installations possible, it is necessary to have

adequate plans that indicate the location of the different elements such as: lighting,
outlets, grounding, power outputs, among others.

Among the plans used in this specialty there are:

- Blueprints lighting and exits of strength.

- Blueprints of outlets and communications.
- Blueprints of uprights.
- Blueprints of details.

Electrical connection

It is the part of the electrical installation included between the distribution network -
including the junction - and the measurement box (meter) in Kw-h (Kilowatts per
hour), which serves as a counter for the energy that the user will consume.

This connection feeds the distribution board or boards and this, in turn, feeds each
of the electrical circuits.

The connection can be underground or aerial.

Cable.- Conductor with several twisted wires.

Circuit.- A conductor or system of conductors designed so that an electric current

can circulate through them.

Conductor.- A material, usually in the form of a wire, cable or bar capable of

conducting electric current.

Duct.- A single closed channel that serves as a route for conductors or cables.

Energized.- Electrically connected to a potential difference or electrically charged

so that it has a potential against ground.

Circuit breaker.- A connection and disconnection device, capable of carrying or

interrupting currents under normal circuit conditions and currents under abnormal
conditions of a specified duration such as currents under fault conditions.

Grounded.- Connected to or in contact with ground or connected to a conductive

body that acts as ground.

Supply.- Set of facilities that allow the supply of electrical energy safely and that
reaches the delivery point.

Voltage.- The effective potential difference between any two conductors or

between a conductor and the ground.
